Run
Comments: Not a good run. I just couldn't get into my pace -- my HR was low, the hills didn't kick my butt, and I never felt overheated. I just don't understand it! I don't think it was because of all of the people, although that could have contributed I suppose. I think it was just a lazy run for me! What would you do differently?: Maybe it's that mental game I've been playing for awhile. It's crazy to do the same thing and expect different results, so I guess I need to figure this out. Post race
Warm down: This was the best part! I walked back to our condo -- about 3 miles from the park, on Peachtree. I got to watch the runners for that entire three miles, and it was just amazing. A sea of people, out there enjoying the 4th. Even Cardiac Hill didn't phase them. I loved it! What limited your ability to perform faster: I never got into that race frame of mind. Event comments: I do this race every year, but this year seemed even better than ever. They published start times, so not everyone had to show up at once. Everyone had a D chip, so everyone's race was timed -- kudos to the race organizers for that! It seemed that there were more bands than usual on the course, the volunteers were all fabulous, and the organization to accommodate the largest 10K in the U.S. went like clockwork. Great job! Started waking up hours before I needed to get up. And that's a horrible pre-race routine! It's not as if I was going to win this thing, so why couldn't I sleep? Finally got up, put on the weather channel (good news -- it was cool out!), and ate a Clif bar.
My husband dropped me off close to the start, so warmup consisted of meandering over to my corral and doing a little stretching.
