Run
Comments: This was just a difficult, difficult run for me. I'm not sure if it was lack of training, or lack of sleep the two nights before. The previous two nights I got about 6 hours of sleep and about 5 hours of sleep, respectively. With no naps. I need at least 7 hours to run optimally, so I think that had an effect on me. Plus, I was working full time and going to school full time, so I basically did a half-ass training plan and just ran whenever I could squeeze it in (on lunch breaks at work during the week, then one long run on the weekends). I know I could have trained harder and better if I had had more time. My hamstring tendon/IT band was bothering me also, but it wasn't too bad. This was a difficult run but I pushed through it. Even though it wasn't my best 1/2 marathon, it was also not my worst which is just plain shocking. Oh and also one of my problems may have been how early it was. I normally have been running no earlier than 11:00 a.m., and this run started at 7:00 a.m. I've been running later in the day because that allows me to run in shorts and t-shirts instead of running in pants and a jacket, since it's still in the 40s in the mornings but 60 to 70 by the afternoon. I think it does make a difference that I was not used to running that early, though now that it's getting warm again probably most of my runs will be in the morning. Edited to add: Holy cow, this WAS my fastest half marathon ever! I was thinking my best time was 2:14 something, but it was actually 2:18 something! Wow! What would you do differently?: Not have an incredibly full weekend the day before my race, train more! Post race
Warm down: I ate one Sunchip, my husband ate the rest that bastage! I stretched out, and tried to sit as much as possible. Oh and I drank water. I was delirious, I just wanted to go eat lunch/breakfast and take a looong nap. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of training and lack of sleep Event comments: This was an excellent race and I hope to do it next year. Note to self - No activities the day before the race! And get lots of sleep next time, duh! Last updated: 2009-03-08 12:00 AM
