Pre-race routine:

This was first triathlon, so barely slept at all before the race. Woke up around 5am to get ready for the race. I had a light breakfast of toast, grits and a powerbar.
Event warmup:

Just did some stretches.
Swim
  • 06m 31s
  • 328 yards
  • 01m 59s / 100 yards
Comments:

I had trained a lot for swimming coming into this event. My goal was to swim a good pace without getting my heart rate up. I passed 2 people in the first length, I was making good speed then around 200m I got stuck behind this bunch who were crowding the whole lane. I also lost some time at the ladder waiting for the people to exit the pool
What would you do differently?:

Work on my breathing and use my arms a lot more, saving the legs for the bike.
Transition 1
  • 03m 37s
Comments:

The weather was very cold. It took me a while to get dried off to put my socks on. Also putting my gloves on took a while too. My goal is to make this transition under 1:30 next time.
What would you do differently?:

Put gloves while on the bike and practice with the shoes already clipped in the bike.
Bike
  • 42m 58s
  • 12 miles
  • 16.76 mile/hr
Comments:

This was my first race on the new aerodynamic bars I had put on my bike. I was able to see the difference in the race, I probably passed about 20 people in the first lap itself. I had really worked on my climbing, so I was much faster on the hills than some of the other people. I backed off a little bit at the end in order to conserve my legs, but could have gone about a couple of minutes faster.
What would you do differently?:

Work on hydration on the bike and also push a little harder.
Transition 2
  • 02m 17s
Comments:

I was working as hard as I could to get through this transition as fast as I could. This is something I just need to work on in other races.
Run
  • 27m 14s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 46s  min/mile
Comments:

The course felt way longer than it was. I thought I was almost halfway done when it said "Mile 1". The brick conditioning really paid off as I felt no pain whatsoever coming off the bike.
What would you do differently?:

I didn't pace myself properly. I had a lot left in me after the run. My goal was to do it under 25 min and I didn't accomplish that. Next time I am going to push much harder on the run.
Post race
Event comments:

I am just going to keep working on my transitions and push harder on the bike and run.
