Pre-race routine:

I was going to eat some oatmeal but I should have checked that the hotel had a microwave. I stopped at a gas station for some musclemilk which was okay.
Event warmup:

I streched for awhile and did a 100m warmup swim but it did not matter because I waited to swim for 2 hours past the first wave of the elites.
Swim
  • 10m 2s
  • 440 yards
  • 02m 17s / 100 yards
Comments:

I really hit the pool hard the first half but after that I was getting really tired so I slowed to a better more relaxed pace.
What would you do differently?:

Start out more slowly, not try to kill myself starting out.
Transition 1
  • 00m 54s
Comments:

Had a little trouble clipping into my right speedplay shoe but I have only have them for about a week I was used to look pedals.
What would you do differently?:

Next race might try and keep my shoes already clipped in to save some time with lots of practice before though.
Bike
  • 44m 34s
  • 14 miles
  • 18.85 mile/hr
Comments:

I really enjoyed myself out on the bike, it was over before I knew it. I was surprized how well I did on the killer hill on old route 63.
What would you do differently?:

I would incorporate more hill training although i felt pretty strong on them as it was.
Transition 2
  • 01m
Comments:

Coming off the dismont line I hopped off my bike and my right shoe popped off which was kind of embarasing but a volunteer grabbed it for me and off I went, I am still not used to my new speedplay pedals. I also tried to rack my bike diferently than I did starting, which I struggled with I needed to rack the same way I did starting the race.
What would you do differently?:

Rack my bike the same way everytime.
Run
  • 22m 31s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 07m 16s  min/mile
Comments:

I thought my run went fairly well, at the time though, I thought I was going quite slow but I acually shaved 20sec per mile off of a 5k run I did in January.
What would you do differently?:

Practice more brick training, boy did my legs hurt for the 1st mile.
Post race
Warm down:

Stretched a little bit, talked to family about the race.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The swim I really need some classes to better my swim.

Event comments:

I am kind of biased when it comes to the race evaluation because Mark Livesay is my cousin but I think he puts on some fun and and well planned events.
