Age Group Rank = 3/35
Pre-race routine:

Got up from camping - not to bad a night rained a little. The boys did awesome helping me out.

Ate a bagel / banana / coffee/ HEED
Event warmup:

Ran for about 10 minutes. Should have rode the bike to get my speedometer working
Swim
  • 08m 10s
  • 550 yards
  • 01m 29s / 100 yards
Comments:

I enjoyed the swim - but no one was close to the time that they thought. I passed all in my lane after starting last and lapped one. I did what I said I would do but no one else was close.

Bad part was the girl who was counting and supposed to signal us got confused when I passed everyone so I did an extra 50. I figure that would have been worth 45 sec. In the end it didn't matter I might have been 4th overall but no big deal.
What would you do differently?:

Take 30-45 seconds off my swim time then I can enjoy the conga line and draft off of some fish.

Swim what is required
Transition 1
  • 00m 47s
Comments:

Still working with the new shoes. It is getting better but still not great.
Bike
  • 33m 38s
  • 12 miles
  • 21.41 mile/hr
Comments:

I like the loop courses. I definately hit it harder the second lap and was more gutsy going around the corners
What would you do differently?:

Push a little harder
Transition 2
  • 00m 44s
Comments:

I didn't have the shoes off in time and ended up unclipping while jumping off. Don't recommend it. It was NOT graceful T2.
What would you do differently?:

get out of the shoes earlier
Run
  • 18m 41s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 06m 02s  min/mile
Comments:

Got my feet and breathing under control in the first 1/2 mile and then starting picking guys off slowly. Tried to surge the last mile but was running out of gas.
What would you do differently?:

Have more run volume. Continue to focus on mental strength. 100% push, it is almost over
Post race
Warm down:

Slow jogging and stretch

Great massage. The H.R. girl had the touch, EXCELLENT massage

What limited your ability to perform faster:

swimming an extra 50 yards, mental focus on the bike

Event comments:

Other than the swim counter (I will count from here on out), it was a great little "tune up" race.

The wrench bling is cool too.
