Pre-race routine:

Got to the race way to early. Went to Subway and grabbed some lunch (my swim time wasn't till 3). Went to the Vulcan Star Trek Museum. Then headed to the race. Since the weather was so terrible there were a lot of no shows so I was able to start around 2:45.
Event warmup:

None - was a bad idea. Arms were stiff for the swim (probably from standing around in the cold for so long).
Swim
  • 10m 22s
  • 500 meters
  • 02m 04s / 100 meters
Comments:

This is actually a really slow swim for me. I always swim well below 2mins/100m. The first lap I was stuck behind two people quite a bit slower then me trying to pass each other so I ended up just doing some breastroke. This added quite a bit of time to my swim. Also, the pool was wayyyy too warm. It was like swimming in a warm bathtub. Another reason I attribute my slow time to is that my arms were really stiff from standing outside in the cold for awhile. There was nowhere to do a swim warmup.
What would you do differently?:

Before crossing the timing mat, I should have looked to see where the people in the lane I was heading to were. I should have probably waited about 30 seconds before going.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Transition went well. Fingers were numb from the approximately 2 degree celsius weather! Everything worked out pretty well!
What would you do differently?:

Nothing! I was happy with my T1. It was included in the bike time.
Bike
  • 37m 14s
  • 15 kms
  • 24.17 km/hr
Comments:

The way out went fantastic. Was keeping above 30km/hr the whole way. Was passed by three people, but I wasn't too upset about it because it was obvious they were experienced triathletes (aero helmets, water bottles between the front handlebars, etc.). The way back was super hard! I was biking into an extremely strong wind, but I managed to pass two people! It also started hailing on the way back for a few minutes which wasn't too lovely. I was only able to average maybe 20km/hr on the way back.
What would you do differently?:

Get aerobars. They probably would have helped out alot on the return trip!
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Whoa were my legs sore!!! I couldn't run with my bike as my legs felt like jelly! Running shoes went on very easily!
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, I felt it went very well.
Run
  • 27m 7s
  • 5 kms
  • 05m 25s  min/km
Comments:

Legs were pretty sore and weak for the first half. Felt like I was able to pick it up alot for the second half.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing really. I am very happy with my time!
Post race
Warm down:

Nothing really.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of training

Event comments:

Overall I am very happy with this race. A little disappointed in my swim, but I havent been swimming much at all lately so what can you expect. I felt that my run was very strong, but when I look at my placing in each event it is still my worst. I will continue to focus lots on running in my future training.
