  • 400 meters
  • 02m 23s / 100 meters
Comments:

I'd predicted 8mins 30 for the swim so I'm really happy with this performance. I guess that's the difference a tri suit (compared to baggy swim shorts) and not swimming at 6:15 in the morning makes.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

T1 time included in swim.

I couldn't be bothered with the whole getting into your bike shoes whilst on the bike thing - does it really save that much time...? For my first ever transition I thought it went pretty well.

Comments:

I never really felt comfortable on the bike. My legs felt really tired, which shouldn't have really been a surprise as I haven't tapered at all for this race. I felt like I was completely loosing power up the hills and felt quite sick for the first half of the ride too.

I also started getting a stitch near the end of the bike segment and this would say with me throughout the run.

I also posted the 5th fastest bike split of the entire field which I am really happy with. I just need to get my running and swimming up to the same level.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

T2 time included in bike split.

I didn't take my feet out of my shoes before dismounting the bike. I'd completely forgotten about this and nearly slipped over as I tried to dismount with my shoes still on.
What would you do differently?:

Definitely take feet out of shoes before dismounting.
Run
  • 19m 47s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 06m 22s  min/mile
Comments:

I had a really bad stitch and had to stop at the first turnaround for a few seconds. I had to take the first two laps slowly and then I was able to go a little faster on the final lap but I finished knowing I could have gone so much harder :(
What would you do differently?:

Not get a stitch - maybe I ate/drank too much before the start of the race.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Tired legs and a stitch during the run. Anyway, I am now officially a triathlete and out to beat the 1 hour mark :)

Event comments:

Quick registration and event ran ahead of schedule. Nice friendly atmosphere.
