Pre-race routine:

Got up early. Ate a banana and had some cereal. I was curious to see how having milk would affect me before a race but I didn't seem to have any issues.
Event warmup:

Just did some stretches to get the muscles loosened up. For some reason I don't like to do a warm up swim in the pool.
Swim
  • 05m 21s
  • 275 yards
  • 01m 57s / 100 yards
Comments:

I had put down a faster time since I was easily doing 300 yards in 5 minutes. But a week before the race I injured my right shoulder so I wasn't able to push as hard. I passed about 6 people and I think only 1 person passed me. There was relatively little bumping in this pool swim.
What would you do differently?:

Work on breathing and body rotation.
Transition 1
  • 01m 56s
Comments:

I finally made a sub 2 minutes T1 transition. This is my second triathlon and I feel this was a significant improvement.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe start with shoes clipped in. I can do it in practice but for some reason I shy away from it during a real race.
Bike
  • 41m 38s
  • 13.25 miles
  • 19.10 mile/hr
Comments:

The bike was great, the only problem was I had to stop at an intersection because a cop had closed it down to let traffic thru. I probably lost 2 minutes since I had to slow down, stop for a minute and accelerate again.
Transition 2
  • 01m 23s
Comments:

Very happy with this transition too.
What would you do differently?:

Try to do a T2 in under a minute.
Run
  • 25m 12s
  • 3.12 miles
  • 08m 05s  min/mile
Comments:

I started off the run at a good pace. Then after half a mile, I started to feel some heaviness in my stomach. I believe I had too much gatorade in my system. I started to slow down my pace and I was cursing that I had blown a good race. Then I started to sweat and as my body lost some liquid, I started to feel better. After mile 2, I was back in my peak running form and sprinted towards the finish. I was seriously expecting a 30 minute time and was pleasantly surprised to see I did it in 25 minutes.
What would you do differently?:

Watch my hydration, work on mental conditioning to get me thru the HTFU moments.
Post race
Warm down:

Had some bananas and pancakes. Talked to some of the people I had met before the swim.

Event comments:

The timing results were screwed up at first but the guys worked hard to fix them.
