Swim
Comments: Ehh...swim wasn't so great or at least not what I was expecting. I started a few back to the outside as my strategy was to cut over at the first turn buoy and then settle into a rhythm. My starting position caused me to run over quite a few people, which threw me off. My sighting was okay but i found myself zig-zagging a bit too much. I started with bilateral breathing and switched between bilateral and one-sided. I noticed that I swam straighter breathing to one side. What would you do differently?: I would start to the inside more and sprint ahead with the front of the pack. I'm confident I can swim better than my time shows. I would like to try drafting more and sighting a bit better as well. Transition 1
Comments: Good transition. The run from the swim exit to my bike was a solid 100yds+. Slow jog to my stuff as i was pretty dizzy. What would you do differently?: Maybe run faster. Would like to get t1 down into the 1:30s Bike
Comments: My bike significantly improved year over year, which i'm extremely happy about. I felt like I should've gone a bit harder on the hills as I was feeling pretty good. Hydration was okay. I wanted to finish my bottle of accelerade, which I didn't do. It was tough to stomach the sweetness with the humidity. This was one of the first humid days I had really rode in as it has been a pretty mild summer here in NJ. Regardless, I felt good coming off of the bike What would you do differently?: train harder to get faster. I would like to be in the top 100 for bike next year. I need a better hydration strategy as well. stay in aero the entire ride. Transition 2
Comments: Socks...stupid socks. I should've gone barefoot in my shoe but was worried about getting cuts on the top of my feet. Surprised that my T2 and T1 is identical...weird. What would you do differently?: no socks for a 10k. Run
Comments: I only had about 4 weeks of run training 2-3 times a week due to shin splints during may/june. I was only off my pace last year by about 20 seconds so there is plenty of room to improve. The run course was alright, unfortunately by the time i came off the bike the blazing sun was out, the humidity was up and I wanted to pass out. I had some slight cramping in my quad, directly above my knee but managed to fight it off. Stopped on the run to take a leak in the woods. Did some walk-running as well. Turned it on the last mile and sprinted the last quarter mile. The sounds of the crowds, the cowbells and hearing your name being announced is very motivating...sends chills down your spine. Love it. What would you do differently?: Hopefully i'll be healthy next year and will be able to train for the run. Post race
Warm down: Found some shade. little bit of stretching. Ate pineapple, watermellon, almonds, dumped a bottle of water on my head. Food was courtesy of mom and dad. Hung out with the tri-club after and dug into some of the goodies (homebaked choc chip cookies, brownies) after the race. What limited your ability to perform faster: lack of run training. poor positioning in the swim. Event comments: This is a great race on a fun course; perfect for a first timer or veteran. Lin-mark put on a great race and am looking forward to competing here next year. Overall, I finished 5 minutes and 40 seconds or so faster than last year and 1 min and 1 second short of my goal of 2hr 30min. While my swimming time was worse (I chalk this up to poor strategy as I know I am in much better shape) and my running was sub-par (again, injury) my bike and transition times significantly improved. Next year my goal is to shoot for a 2:25ish time see you then. Last updated: 2009-03-16 12:00 AM

Woke-up at 5:45am and had a bowl of oatmeal w/ 2 tablespoons of Peanut Butter and a banana. Sipped on gatorade and water for most of the morning. I arrived at the course at about 6:30 and setup transition. Finished a 16oz bottle of water before warmups.
Swam around for about 5 mins...did some sprints to get the heart rate up. Water was 77.9 degrees. I had over 90 mins before my heat went in...
