Waikoloa Beach Resort, Hawaii

Sunny
Total Time = 4h 07m 59s
Overall Rank = 693/798
Age Group = 20-24
Age Group Rank = 20/20
Pre-race routine:

Got up put on race gear then biked over to the start of the race.
Event warmup:

Did not really do a warm up because of the bike down to the start of the race.
Swim
  • 31m 37s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 56s / 100 yards
Comments:

The race might want to widen the m shape of the course and move the start location so that it does not go over that coral formation.
What would you do differently?:

Train more for the swim and not try to stand on the bottom so that my foot does not get cut again.
Transition 1
  • 20m 42s
Comments:

My transition one was soured by the fact that I got all the way up to it and found out that medical was down near the swim and had to walk back down to there for the cut on my foot to be cleaned and bandaged. Dr. Laird was really nice but the location of medical was not convenient unless you only needed it after the finish of the race.
What would you do differently?:

Ask were medical is before heading all the way up to the transition to then have to walk back down to where I got out of the water.
Bike
  • 1h 49m 44s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 13.59 mile/hr
Comments:

There was a lot of wind that was gusty and changing from cross to headwinds for the last eight miles of the course.
What would you do differently?:

Train for the bike more and know that there is always wind on the Queen K.
Transition 2
  • 01m 28s
Comments:

What was the big obstacle for this transition was the Pros where tearing down their transitions and my bike was racked in the same row. So I had to wait for Maca to move so that I could go down to my area.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing I thought this was a good transition nice short sweet and I got out on the run in much less time that transition one.
Run
  • 1h 20m
  • 6.21 miles
  • 12m 53s  min/mile
Comments:

I walked most of this course due to my foot and killing my legs on the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Have more fitness to be able to run the course after even an challenging bike.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around waiting for Sis to finish then walked to the food line.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The cut on my foot and bike fitness.

Event comments:

This is a race that I plan on doing every year that I can.

Course: Was in the shape of an M so there were corners that you got beat up on just due to the sheer number of contestants. There was also a coral formation about 15 feet behind the start that I cut my foot on because I could not see with how murky the race had that area of the water. I did however see 4 honu(sea turtles) out on the swim.
