Swim
Comments: I did have a little problem drifting to the left. What would you do differently?: Sight a little more often. Transition 1
Bike
Comments: Roads could use a little resurfacing as it was pretty bumpy. There were also some tight turns that seemed to cause a little difficulty for some as I saw a few bikes in the ditch. I don't think that the RD could have done much about these. People just need to be more careful about turning It was a two loop course and it got really crowded on the first loop. What would you do differently?: Not much. Maybe not loose my shot bloks to the road? Transition 2
Comments: I really don't like spectators being allowed in the transition area during a race. They kept getting in the way. What would you do differently?: not forget my gum Run
Comments: I struggled here. I was so tired. I walked more of the first mile than I would have liked, but I think that I started out a little fast for how I was feeling. I think that on a normal day, it would have been fine. I ran the next couple of miles pretty well. What would you do differently?: Missed my gum. I won't forget that again. Post race
Warm down: Laid in the grass and ate a sugar cookie. What limited your ability to perform faster: Sick, tired and sore. Event comments: I would really like to see the transition area closed to spectators. Also a main path back to the cars was a narrow path also used by the first 1/4 mile of the run. Some of the spectators and athletes who were finished weren't very considerate of the runners who were still competing. I think that it would be best to close that path to none athlete traffic. Otherwise the event was fun and well organized. I'm not fond of the duck pond, but for an early season open water swim, it was worth doing. I will probably do it again next year. I wasn't feeling really well today. I was still sore from a workout on Tuesday and I woke up with a cold, but I managed to hammer out a race. Started with a good fruit smoothie for breakfast. Had a clif builder bar and some gatorade about an hour before the race.
I got there really early and so was able to pick out a good spot for my bike and set up my transition area. Sat and talked with Heather by the water for quite a while. Didn't have any pre-race nerves to speak of. I think I just wasn't feeling well enough to waste the energy on it.
