Pre-race routine:

Had a protein smoothie in the car on the way. Set up bike, went to bathroom, sipped on gatorade and ate a peanut butter crunch clif bar. Talked to friends.
Event warmup:

wetsuit wiggle and a little stretching
Swim
  • 40m 28s
  • 1640 yards
  • 02m 28s / 100 yards
Comments:

was taking it pretty easy. Had some chest pains earlier in the week when my heart rate got really high. I was trying to avoid a situation.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Transition 1
  • 03m 25s
Comments:

It was weird. The gal with her bike next to mine was having trouble getting into her bike gear and asked me to help her. I don't think that I would have ever stopped someone in a race and asked them to help me get dressed. I helped her.
Bike
  • 1h 32m 42s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 16.08 mile/hr
Comments:

I struggled up the hill a bit and a few people passed me, but when we turned around. Look out! I was flamin'!!! That was fun. I loved seeing 47mph on on computer as I went down the big hill!
What would you do differently?:

Open my clif bloks beforehand so they would have been easier to get into.
Transition 2
  • 02m 14s
Comments:

Good transition.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Run
  • 1h 05m 40s
  • 5.8 miles
  • 11m 19s  min/mile
Comments:

I did pretty well the first loop. Then I kind of lost my steam on the second. It was hot and I was really tired.
What would you do differently?:

Fuel better on the run, maybe bring a hat.
Post race
Warm down:

By the time I got to the finishline, all the fruit was gone. All that was left were cookies and water bottles. I grabbed a couple and plopped in the shade.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I didn't push very hard because of the chest pains that I had experienced earlier in the week when my HR got a little high. They really scared me and I haven't had time to go to the doc yet. I didn't want to repeat that so I took it pretty easy. k,

Event comments:

TriUtah always does a fabulous job. Though I would really like there to be more than just cookies left for the slower runners.
