Swim
Comments: Had a great swim. This was the only event I had any time training put in. Very happy with my results, was right on target. I was ranked 3rd in my AG, but the 2 guys that beat me had times of 1:30ish and that is definetly wrong. So I am guessing I might have been 1st (at least in my mind I was first). For the first time swimming, I had trouble catching my breath. Maybe I was pushing harder than normal....maybe it was because it was the first time I ever swam in a tri-top....not sure what it was, but at least my time didnt suffer. Still can't beleive that guy who was seeded #5, he could only swim 1 lap without resting and almost drowning. Guess maybe his time he submitted got mixed up....arrggghhh, were quite a few slow people ranked higher than me, but thankfully they had some technical issues and delayed the person infront of me 30+ seconds creating some clear water for me once I passed her after the first turn. What would you do differently?: I need to practice turns with lane switches. Maybe get a speed suit to wear over the tri top. I didnt like the extra drag I felt swimming (might have only been in my mind, but I felt slower in the water). Transition 1
Comments: Man I was gassed from that swim effort. Had a huge headache and very short of breath. Ran with the bike for the first time holding the saddle, went smoothly (thanks JeepFleep for the clinic). What would you do differently?: Need to buy some tri-shoes and get comfortable doing this sock-less. Getting on socks and shoes were the only slow parts of transition. Pretty happy overall with the tranition. The super fast guys were about 40 seconds faster than me. Bike
Comments: Wow, that swim really took it out of me. Took me 1/2 the course to get my head back on and to get rid of the headache. Had to see Gaarry's back side a little too much and decided on lap 2 not to have that view anymore and kicked it up just a bit. Not used to getting passed by so many people, but should have known since I didnt train and was in survival mode. Calves started cramping up last few miles. Wind really picked up on the bike course. Was more of a cross wind so it seemed to be there the whole time. What would you do differently?: T.I.T.S. plain and simple T.I.T.S. Was embarrassingly slow Transition 2
Comments: No transition time. Was pretty quick getting off the bike and into transition. There was a guy at the dismount line at the same time as me and I beat him to the racks. What would you do differently?: Need to leave the shoes on the bike. Run
Comments: Was in complete survival mode on the run. Wasnt sure I was even going to do it, but the knee felt good so I just kept moving. I wouldnt call it running, would call it moving or hobbling but refused to stop and/or walk. Gaarry passed me up, then decided to take a break and have some water, then passed me up again... What would you do differently?: Need to start running again. Don't want to see Gaarry's back side again for 5 kilos. Was embarrassingly slow Post race
Warm down: Walked over to grap some free vitamin water...dang it, they only had vitamin 10 crap, yuck. Walked around a bit and saw a few people I knew. Went over and cheered on at the finish line for a bit. They started letting people get bikes out of transition. Decided to call it a day since I had a long list of "honey do's" to complete. What limited your ability to perform faster: Umh, actually train, ya think? Event comments: Only bad part of the race was the timing company. Really would like to know my true overall ranking on the swim. Last updated: 2009-03-22 12:00 AM

Overall Rank = 252/410
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 22/29
Don't have much of a pre-race routine. Got there early enough to pump up my tires and get transition set up. Got a chance to meet Gaarry since we were seeded close together. On and off sprinkles and a litte rain. Wasnt too windy...yet.....
Warmed up by watching people warm up and rinsing out my goggles.
