Pre-race routine:

Woke up early had cup of coffee and water ate half a plain bagel with peanut butter (different than my usual oatmeal)
Event warmup:

Parked at swim start luged stuff over to transition which is a LONG ways away. Only to learn no swim so luged some stuff back to the car then back to the trans. day before swam a bit at swim start and rode 15 min of bike course to get used to trans...

Comments:

Learning to swim in waves is a HUGE difference folks..I will think a lot about open water swims in oceans and will try somehow to get some practice..
What would you do differently?:

Move to Florida?
Transition 1
  • 01m 47s
Comments:

Can't get in my shoes while on the bike yet. Some nice dude at start literally held my bike while I bent over and put on my shoes. the cobblestones made it all the more difficult. My T1 was also affected by a girl who chose to sit down right in front of my bike at the rack. I had to drag my bike over her to get it off the rack.
What would you do differently?:

Run faster with the bike and learn to put my shoes on while riding
Bike

  • 20.61 mile/hr
Comments:

I didn't drink enough water and due to the harsh winds I killed my legs by trying so hard on the bike and it cost me bunches on the run. I was in first after the bike but was 17th on the run for 6th overall. Bummer to lose the edge I had...
What would you do differently?:

I need to figure out the right HR and pace for me to do well on the bike but be able to have a decent run...
Transition 2
  • 02m 7s
Comments:

took shoes off before even getting to trans which helped me run with the bike. Ate a gu at trans before the run and drnk some water which slowed me down..
Run

Comments:

Just sucked! I am super slow to begin with and really thought I was ok on the bike. Then I just hit a wall on the run. My legs wouldn't go. I was hot as hell and felt horrid. My HR was bamming. One guy asked if I was playing pac man on my Garmin cause my HR alarm was going off at mile 1. I just felt sluggish and mad. That all being said my best pace for a 10k is right at high 10 just under 11 min miles in best conditions so I guess I am being hard on myself but I really need to fix my run. Lord knows I have been trying and training etc but I just can't seem to get my run together. All the 70 year old men passed me on the run..Nuff said...
What would you do differently?:

Learn how to run from the 70 year old men....
Post race
Warm down:

massage and beer Gotta love St Anthonys!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Being fat with short stubby legs

Seriously, I went too hard on the biek. Did not hydrate enough on the bike for the run and did not condition myself adequately for Tampa heat. pre-race nutrition was also a factor I could improve on.

Event comments:

Everyone should do this race but make sure you can swim in an open ocean with waves before you sign up. I think its one of the best races period!

Suit: would have
Course: swam it the day before with others from BT. I was scared from it. I knew I would finish but the waves seemed very big and I wondered how long it would take and what it would cost me. Honestly I was thinking 'if its like this on race am people are going to be in trouble'...I was bummed but relieved they cancelled the swim...

Wind: Strong with gusts
Course: flat course with lots of tight turns that were chock full of other people. I was riding my new 404's which i had never ridden before so I was NOT used to A) riding aero and B) riding in windy conditions with race wheeels. That said, I just knew everyone would be moving fast since the swim was cancelled which means I better jam on the bike if I want to have a chance on run. I jammed as best I could, Got down in aero and said I might crash and die but I am here to race and I just went for it...
