Swim
Comments: I knew I had to keep some gas in the tank for the run, so I did the swim at a long distance cruise pace. The only problem I had on the swim was that I caught up to the previous wave/s and ended up having to navigate through (sorry to the person I accidentally swam over!) and around about 15 other swimmers. A few times I had to stop and look around, then swim out around other clusters of swimmers and then back on course. I suppose that's what group open water swimming is all about! What would you do differently?: Next time I will probably go wider to avoid slower swimmers. Wish I knew how to find faster swimmers and draft behind them. Transition 1
Comments: Whew. My transition was bad. The transition area was a long way from the water so that's primarily what wasted time (again, running is my main problem). Wetsuit got stuck. It felt like it took all day to get switched into cycling gear. What would you do differently?: Probably everything. I need to work on this -- it's only my second tri but I probably lost 3 minutes unnecessarily because of slow transition. I should not waste time drying my feet off properly. Bike
Comments: I thought I did well considering where I'm at in my training. I could have done another loop, was sort of bummed that the ride was over. I know I'm capable of at least another 2mph average but that will come with time. What would you do differently?: Ignore the marshalls to slow down too soon. Transition 2
What would you do differently?: Run faster! Don't be too concerned about the neatness of my kit (yeah, silly...) Run
Comments: Well, even though I nearly came last in the "running", I was satisfied. Running is a huge problem for me and it's taken some time to get to this point. If I'm not careful back problems and shin splints start cropping up, so I was just satisfied to keep a slow and steady pace for 3 miles. Running is the main reason my overall time was so slow, but it will get better over time. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Post race
Warm down: Nah! Had a Gatorade and talked to the BT'ers at the finish line. What limited your ability to perform faster: Running speed... I could have run faster but probably injured myself. Event comments: Fun race. I'll do it again. Last updated: 2009-03-23 12:00 AM

Slept less than 3 hours and was really tired. Ate my usual breakfast and had a mug of coffee.
