Age Group = M30-34
Age Group Rank = 6/52
Pre-race routine:

Got up early, had a couple cups of coffee on the way to the race. Drove with LisaB. Had a kashi bar for breakfast. Got my chip and bodymark, met up with the BT and NAMC folks. Totally lost my wetsuit and Kirk Came to the rescue with a loaner thar actually fit me
Event warmup:

Tried on the wetsuit that Kirk brought for me that belongs to GW, that was once Kraigs, that was once WetsuitRentals. (wonder how many people peed in it? :) ). turned out to be an awesome suit and I will buy one!
Swim
  • 10m 49s
  • 656 yards
  • 01m 39s / 100 yards
Comments:

Good swim for me.I hung with some people that are better swimmers. The borrowed wetsuit worked beautifully. Sighting was good and I held a nice even stroke the whole time. I enjoy combat swimming and found myself being a little more aggressive this time.
What would you do differently?:

Swim more in training. I did as well as I could have within my capabilities, and have no complaints
Transition 1
  • 01m 15s
Comments:

pretty good transition. I lost a few seconds getting the wetsuit over the timing chip. It was the first time I ever took that wetsuit off too, so good all things considered
What would you do differently?:

Dont lose my wetsuit and practice
Bike
  • 30m 30s
  • 11.2 miles
  • 22.03 mile/hr
Comments:

Ran out of transition and tried to settle in for a minute, but then K Spengler cruised by, and it was on. I ramped it up and chased him to mile 3 and then made the move to pass. We jockeyed a few times for position during the rest of the race. Came up to two slow moving cars and had to scream and do some dangerous passing on the right, then the left. That got my heart rate up and slowed us up for several seconds. After that point, kevin passed me again and I saw J22 and Luis at the turn ahead, so I screamed "let's go get them" and passed them at around mile 7-8. I was hairy from there as J22, Kevin, and Myself shuffled a bit. I ended up in the front the last 2 miles and kevin caught me coming into the park. I knew I could make up a few seconds in transition as I was prepping for the flying dismount. came of clean and quick
What would you do differently?:

only thing that slowed me down were the stupid cars on the course. Nothing I can do about that. This was a fun ride and I enjoyed being out there with some friends in friendly competition.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Good transition. lost 2-3 second going left with my bike as someone wanted to go right. otherwise clean and quick
What would you do differently?:

dismount on the left instead of right, where my rack is
Run
  • 21m 46s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 07m 01s  min/mile
Comments:

Managed to get out in front of Kevin, but he was staying right on my heels. I was pretty taxed after the bike ride, and knew I would have to suck it up. I felt slow and sluggish, then we hit the big hill before the mile 2 turnaround and that's where kevin made his move and passed me. I stayed on his heels the best I could, but he built an insurmountable lead of 2-300 yards. I ended up with a sprint out with another guy at the end, which was fun. I was suprised to run sub 22. Set a 5k PR
What would you do differently?:

Not much. run volume was slight this month with some nagging IT band isues
Post race
Warm down:

Rang some cowbell, brought in the rest of the members and ran out to Bill H to reel him in.
I shaved 5 minutes off a pretty good time last year, and raced my first AG non clyde and finished a repectable 6th. I am just happy to continue to make progress. Kudo's to my other NAMC competitive pals, we all made it tough on each other and we all had PR's.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

training time, weight (still have some dead weight to get off).

Event comments:

good low key race. Post race festivities and food is a little weak, but these races are well organized and a great Value
