Swim
Comments: Very short swim (quarter mile), even for a sprint. 5 minutes to swim then 1:12 to complete the rest of the tri ins't quite proportional. Other than that, the swim chute was well organized and the bald eagles diving for fish provided the entertainment while waiting for our wave to start. Started in the front of my wave and sprinted to the first buoy, which provided clear water until the last 100 yards when I started to catch the wave in front. Course was well marked, plenty of kayak support, and though it was sunny, this time of year the sun was high enough in the sky by race time to not be a factor. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Transition 1
Comments: My typical slow T1. Took my time taking off the wet suit and getting bike gear on. One of these days I may try to break 3 minutes for T1... Debated weather to ride with a jacket, but decided to just go with the tri suit. Good choice, I never got cold on the bike. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Bike
Comments: Enjoyed the course and was able to stay aero for the majority. The only knock agaist the course would be that you really couldn't pass anyone for the last 1.5 miles or so due to the narrow lane and "no passing" zone in the park, which limited my speed for this last portion to under 16 mph. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Transition 2
Comments: Typical T2 for me. Nothing noteworthy. Run
Comments: Run is usually the weakest for me, but also nursing a mending hamstring, I took it fairly easy. Didn't want to have a re-injury that would nag me throughout the season. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Post race
Event comments: A good race to kick off the season. Well organized and well supported. A little on the pricy side for a sprint, but it's for a good cause. I'd do this race again. Last updated: 2009-03-24 12:00 AM
