Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 3:45 and ate cereal, had 2 cups of coffee. Headed up there at 4:20 and got to the Transition at 5:15

Event warmup:

Swam for around 8 minutes or so.
Swim
  • 32m 16s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 58s / 100 yards
Comments:

Had a little problem veering off a little after the first turn, the sun was right in your eyes and it was hard to find the yellow buoys.

Swim is something I look very forward to working on during the off season. I have a lot of potential improvement and I know if I can shave off time, I'll be much more competitive!
What would you do differently?:

Practice!
Transition 1
  • 03m
Comments:

Wow this was slow, but I did have a far run from my T to the bike out.
Bike
  • 1h 11m
  • 24.85 miles
  • 21.00 mile/hr
Comments:

I felt good, especially on the climbs. I am a good climber, especially those gradual hills. The winds didn't bother me cause I'm used to riding in the Kenosha winds :) I was a little tentative to push real hard because of the run ahead, but overall this went well.
Transition 2
  • 01m 58s
Comments:

Good!
Run
  • 55m 13s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 08m 53s  min/mile
Comments:

This was pretty hard for me, the sun was beating on us and it was getting pretty hot. I also needed to pee really bad so I had to stop at the porta (had to wait till mile 3 though!) I lost my GU on the run as well and I really needed that, otherwise I did average.
What would you do differently?:

Well the bathroom thing was inconvenient and losing the GU sucked. Don't do that anymore ;)
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around, drank water, stood under the misters. Found some people I recognized and talked. Talked to some BCLC members about joining- which I will be doing next month!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My swimming is so slow haha. Next year it'll be better!

Event comments:

This was my first Oly distance and I beat my goal time by 17 min! So I think I did just fine for my first :)

Placed 3rd in my AG, which I definitely wasn't expecting. But it was a great experience and I can't wait for the next!
