Danskin Women's Triathlon Series
65F / 18C
Sunny
Total Time = 1h 49m 6s
Overall Rank = 495/1062
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 96/146
Pre-race routine:

Got up early, ate, got dressed and headed out the door. Felt good. Very good. No nerves just pure excitement. Driving over I heard a song by Miley Cyrus (thanks to Shazam otherwise I wouldn't have known it).
Event warmup:

Rode from the parking area to the race site. No swim warm up allowed but I did get in the water a bit.
Swim
  • 25m 1s
  • 880 yards
  • 02m 50s / 100 yards
Comments:

I spent about 2 minutes helping a racer in trouble. I would have felt horribly if I found out later she'd had serious problems before a kayak reached her and I wouldn't change a thing. Finally settled in and got comfortable at about the half-way point.
What would you do differently?:

More OWS practice.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

This is where my day took a wrong turn. Unnoticed by me my timing chip stayed in my wetsuit and went unnoticed until I was out on the run. Other than that I was quite happy about how this went.
What would you do differently?:

Check for my timing chip when putting on socks/shoes. Oh, well, next time.
Bike
  • 53m
  • 11.8 miles
  • 13.36 mile/hr
Comments:

No official split or ranking due to the missing timing chip. Felt great on the flats and downhills but legs didn't want to push for the uphill. Asthma was also a problem. Ate 1 Gu.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

This went well, shoes on grabbed cap with inhaler, racebelt and Gu inside. Off and running. Battled breathing most of the run. I think this is where any nerves and excitement showed itself.
Run
  • 37m
  • 3.1 miles
  • 11m 56s  min/mile
Comments:

This is where I really need to work. Just didn't have much left in me and I think that once I realized that my chip was missing a bit of my spirit was gone.
What would you do differently?:

I need to run more. And ride more.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around, got food, found my chip and turned it in.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Fitness level. It will get better.

Event comments:

I'm very excited to finally be able to call myself a triathlete. It is one of the best things I've ever done for myself and I can't wait to do my next one!
