Swim
Comments: I got off to a fast start as was front right (by choice) as did not want to get caught up in the "scrum". I could feel my HR pounding and new I went out to fast even though I tried to bring it down after the fist 150/200. Made the turn and caught the wave in front of me, therefore banged in to some and swam over some. What would you do differently?: Not start right in the front but maybe in the second or third "row". Very happy with my overall swim time but need to pace it better so start slower and then build to the speed! Need to exit water with HR a little lower next time as new it would be trouble. Transition 1
Comments: Was planning on biking in my running shoes, so no real issues putting them on. Put in quicklaces a few weeks ago so made real easy tightening them! I had figured 2 mins or so in transition so hard to complain this being my first time. I was pushing it though and knew it. What would you do differently?: Since my HR was to high, I would probably wait an extra 10-20 secs to bring it a little further down. Bike
Comments: I was very comfortable with my race pace, rpm was btw 95-105 most of the ride. Had an AccelGel on the bike (probably did not need that) and the Cytomax as felt it on the run. My HR was high still from the swim and only got it down to high 140's which is still high for me on the bike. Was not looking forward to the run since could not get my HR below 150. My breathing, legs and pacing though were no issue. What would you do differently?: Put aerobars and pedal clips on my bike as think that is the only way to get more speed, and that would put my body in a little more aerodynamic position. Need to practice on the bike w/ much higher HR. Transition 2
Comments: Got off the bike quickly and then ran right into transition area. Since already had running shoes on, not much to do in here. Legs felt fine and no residual from the bike. The bricks definitely paid off here. Run
Comments: Legs transitioned perfectly from the bike to the run, problem was my HR. As I was running slowed my pace down and around 1.5 miles it got down to high 140's and then after 2 miles I turned it back up. Last 1/2 mile had enough energy to pick up pace and finish very strong, believe I left nothing out there. What would you do differently?: Practice Practice Practice. Wanted to be sub 8:30min mile so just need to keep running. Post race
Event comments: Seeing the wife and kids at the finish line cheering me on was all worth it! Last updated: 2009-03-25 12:00 AM

Arrived at the Park approx 5:45, got marked and then over to transition area. Well set up. Around 6 ate a Clif Bar and Ensure then about 30mins prior to wave start drank a bottle of Gatorade. Nervous as first tri
Swam for about 5mins just to get used to the water. Was nervous as first ever tri and peaked at my HR (approx 140..way to high) before the actual start.
