Swim
Comments: This was my first OWS during a race, but I've read a lot of pointers from BT on sighting and what to expect. It was a good swim. I breathe to the right, so I had to look up more than I wanted, to keep a good line. Jekyll was an awesome place to swim. What would you do differently?: Train with longer swims. I was pretty winded. Transition 1
Comments: It didn't feel like that long?? I'm satisfied with it, but all I did was put on the helmet and shoes and go. I was still winded from the swim, so I needed the time to recover. What would you do differently?: Nothing, maybe take a second and drink something. Bike
Comments: The bike is hard for me. This was my best pace ever, but I was still getting passed a lot. I felt good until about mile 7. After that, It was a battle just to keep up. The effects from the bike hurt me during the run. I just never fully recovered, but I'm still happy with the bike result! What would you do differently?: Just train harder and longer and increase my base. Transition 2
Comments: T2 was quick. Rack the bike, helmet off, race belt on, grab shirt and go. As I left T2, I began attempting to put my shirt on. Sweat and a tight shirt while jogging does not go together! I think I exerted more energy on the shirt than I did swimming! What would you do differently?: Next time, forget the shirt! Run
Comments: I was out of breath at the beginning of the run. I had to walk which was very disappointing. As I was passed by a 52 year old, who gave encouraging words, I regained my composure and started running again. I don't know him, but I wish I could thank him. After the turnaround, the run went better...slow, but better. What would you do differently?: I need to increase the length of my bike workouts, and do more bricks. Post race
Warm down: Hit my knees and breathe. Then we checked out the vendor tents and waited for the results to get posted. What limited your ability to perform faster: I need to make time for longer workouts during training. Increase my cardio fitness level. Event comments: This was a fantastic event. It was well organized, and Jekyll is a great venue for a triathlon. I'll be back next year. There were plenty of volunteers. Even some of the locals were cheering on the back side of the island. I learned a lot from my first triathlon, and can't wait to do it again! It was one of the hardest yet most rewarding things I've ever done. Last updated: 2009-03-26 12:00 AM

This was my first triathlon, so I had no routine...I got my race packet and body markings(felt all official and stuff), then I went and found my rack and set up transition. Tried to act like I knew what to do. Everyone was very helpful. The athletes around me were setting up also. There wasn't much small talk, but we all kindly made room for each other. After that I nervously/anxiously waited for the start.
I stretched a little, then walked down to the beach for the pre-race meeting. My wife said there were two drunk guys on the beach yelling at us...ha. Beer at 7:30am? To each his own.
