Overall Rank = 774/4921

Event warmup:

It was ultimately all about staying warm with the cool temps and rain coming down. Strange that I have never seen such an empty starting line. Not a single person was on the road until about 10 minutes before the gun went off as everyone was huddled somewhere sheltered.

Comments:

Ran pretty even splits so I am pleased about that. I thought about staying with the 2:30 pace bunny but he was running a bit faster than pace so I opted to stick with my Garmin and run my own race. I ended up hooking up at about 11K with a really great gal who was going my pace and we stuck together until 23K when the hills got to her. I had a Gu at about 16K and wonder if I should maybe have had another.
Post race
Warm down:

None really...just crammed down some fluids and food and made my way back to the car where I tried to discreetly change into some warm dry clothes.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Considering that I wasn't training for it and only had a bib suggested to me on Friday night, I was thrilled with my physical performance. I know that mentally I was a bit off as I didn't have the time to prepare and I had questions in my mind as to whether or not the MR Tri will be cancelled this weekend due to poor weather- thus how would this race effort/recovery affect my preparations for my would-be first tri. No excuses though and I am very pleased with my time.

Event comments:

It was nice that they finished right in Copps Coliseum which allowed families watching to stay warm and dry as they broadcast video of outside runners and finish line onto the big screens. Lots of food and drinks available and there was also the opportunity to do a bag check though I was able to find some great parking so I just kept everything in the car. Not a ton of spectators or bands/music as advertised but given the weather, I can totally understand why. Overall it was very well organiized- seeing as it is in its 115th year- they have had lots of time to figure out how to do it right. I ran as 'Steve Good' as it was too late to change names on the bib.

Performance: Good
Ran pretty steady splits through the race though had to pick it up a bit at the end to make up for time lost on those nasty hills.
Course: Beautiful loop course starting and finishing in downtown Hamilton, Ontario that goes into Burlington. The first 20K are relatively flat and then you get hit with hills from 20K-26K. Most are just little rollers but there is one mother of a hill to culminate it. Aid stations about one every 5K with water and gatorade. Traffic managed by police and we had one lane closed for the race.
