Swim
Comments: First pool swim ever. It felt much better not having to look up every few strokes to make sure I wasnt about to swim into a lifeguard in a kayak. My breathing was good and only started to slow down from arm fatigue about half way through. My turn arounds were atrocious. I'm sure I could improve greatly threre. What would you do differently?: Learn and perfect flip turns. Increase pull power. Transition 1
Comments: This was the first race early enough (or late enough) in the season where I put on a shirt since it was still cool outside. I had a bit of trouble getting that over my wet body. Had some new bike shoes I am still getting used to getting into the pedals effectively. Not too much trouble though. What would you do differently?: Practice transitions, I don't think I have done that once this year. Bike
Comments: Had great cadence this race, but no turnover power. I could never push big gears I wanted to, especially in the first half of the bike. The great positive I had going out was I had zero hamstring cramping like I have suffered in the past. That is one part of my body that was adequately trained. Just wish I had more power. What would you do differently?: Practice with bigger gears, lift more leg weights Transition 2
Comments: Had a great dismount and run to the rack. At the rack I got one of the most horrible stomach cramps I have ever suffered, ever. I know I lost about 45 seconds stretching this bad boy out. What's worse is I couldn't transition my shoes. I'd have to stretch my stomach out standing straight up, and my stomach would lock reaching down to take off one bike shoe. Stretch back, bend over and lock up. Wash, rinse, repeat, for what seemed like forever. I was totally upset as I started to run out of transition. What would you do differently?: Situps? Run
Comments: Weak start to the run. The first quarter mile was slightly uphill and my calfs were cramping for the same duration. So for the most part I was shuffling for the first quarter to half mile until they felt comfortable. This is where I probably lost the most time. Once my legs transitioned I got into a comfortable pace but couldn't ever push myself beyond that. The last quarter of the run was coming downhill on the same grade so I could pick it up a bit. I felt I had maxed out my endurance, but left some speed on the course, along with the poor transition of my legs. What would you do differently?: More brick training. Hill training for leg strength. Speed work. Post race
Warm down: I did max out my potential in accordance to my training. I couldn't do much of anything except sit and catch my breath. I had all the drink and food and massage I needed right at my side. I love you, Steph. What limited your ability to perform faster: Experience with pool swims, power on the bike, muscular endurance for the run. Event comments: I'd advise this race for anyone. Excellent first race for novices with little swimming background. One of the best organized races I've been to for setupevents.com Last updated: 2009-03-30 12:00 AM

Woke up approximately 645. Ate a bowl of museli cereal. Sipped on Gatorade from morning to race time. Arrived at the site at 745, set up my transition area and went to watch the elites start at 8am. My pool staggered start was at 920am. So I had some time to kill. Ate a Powerade Power Gel 5 minutes prior to my start.
Ran 3 minutes outside at approximately 830. Since the swim was at an aquatic center, they were nice enough to have a ton of stationary bikes set up in the hallway outside the pool area. I was on one of them for 5 minutes at approximately 845. Did a warm up swim of a couple laps in a secondary pool in the aquatic center. I couldn't do to many as the water in that pool felt like it was about to evaporate it was so warm.
