  • Comments: I'll be back. It was fun and I learned from it. I think I was in better bike/run shape in July and June of this year. The month of August I really slacked up and maybe trained 10 days the whole month. It showed, my bike times were off a good 3 miles per hour and my run was slower. Since I am staying on 3rd shift I need to stay on the train after work schedule. This time I tried after work in the morning and when I got up in the afternoon. This caused problems both at home and maintaing the planned schedule.

  • Comments: I love this race and thought 3D get a good job with everything. The swim and bike course are awesome and I really liked the new run course layout. The volunteers were plentiful and directed traffic well. The new finish line layout was also very nice. They basically shut down downtown Tawas for the event and the locals seem to love hosting it. I will be back next year..HIM or Olympic?? Not sure yet.

  • Comments: This was a nice race, and I feel that 3D did a nice job in putting it on. I do wish that there were course marshalls enforcing drafting rules as there was not one penalty given, and according to others on the course, the 3D truck followed behind one obvious peleton for quite a ways.

  • Comments: The race itself was well run and reasonably priced for this distance. 3D also threw in a finishers sweatshirt for the half iron distance athletes, which was a nice touch. The volunteers did a good job, but they could have used a little help on the run course. I would recommend this race to athletes considering doing it. I just hope you have a little better weather. The race as far as my experience was very humbling. It had me questioning whether or not I should be doing long-course triathlons. Interstingly, my results were about where I expected in terms of time. Generally when I do a 1/2 I expect a sub-5 hour effort. This time due to my training, etc, I expected a 5:15-5:20 effort. The biggest problem I realized after later reflection is that my heart was just not in it this time.

  • Comments: Love the course. Wish the swim would go into deep water first as fighting the walkers is a major pain. There was virtually no water safety, two jet skis and one or two life guards holding on to a buoys for dear life doesn't seem real safe. No marshals on the bike course makes for a lot of cheating. I noticed a 3D vehicle following a small pack for over a mile and figured I'd see some penalty's but they don't even have a column for it on the results page so I doubt they got dinged. The after party was nicer then last year and the run course is a good improvement along with the finish on Newman which made it feel more festive.

  • Comments: As for the event organization, everything from my perspective went smoothly. Only "complaint" as mentioned was the bike course became kind of lonely towards the end, but that's probably just because I was towards the back of the pack. I thought the finisher's sweatshirt was GREAT. I will definitely be wearing it. I like the gear bag as well, and will likely be using that too. Tech T is nice too.
