  • Comments: First off, I want to thank everybody for your good wishes. I had to fly 20hrs back to Hong Kong on 20min notice 2 wks ago to visit my Dad who is critically ill. My Dad's situation has stabilized although at 91, anything can happen at anytime. Going into this race, I didn't have the appropriate training, but since I've already registered, I decided to do this race as a training session. Because of the lack of OWS practices and the huge waves, I DNF'd the swim, but I biked and ran and completed this brick session, so I'll consider this "mission accomplished". Toronto Tri is in 6 days, and I wouldn't have a chance to practice any OWS before then, so that would be another training session instead of a race for me. Hope the water will not be as choppy and my ankle, which has been swelling up every night since my 20hr flight, will be back to normal then.

  • Comments: I am ecstatic and very proud of myself! I ran a great race, it was the best one this year thus far. I believe the reason I did well was because I left the Garmin at home on purpose; I wanted to do a little experiment and it paid off, the end result being that I raced in a more relaxed state of mind. My training prior to this race helped too, lol! This is very encouraging for the olympic distance race in Montreal next month; I won't use the Garmin there either and will rely solely on my RPE and Timex watch. As for the race organization, it was fantastic! The location was terrific, the organizers and volunteers were great and a family graciously installed a shower stand at the end of their outdoor water hose at the run course turnaround! I will participate in the Cobourg Olympic distance race next year, this will be my prep race before Muskoka Ironman 70.3.
