  • Comments: People had lots of complaints about the course, but I loved it. I wanted a challenge and got it in spades. The volunteers were out of sight and the views were amazing. I was dismayed by the people beating me up on the swim and the litterers on the bike course. It was too dark to see if people were littering on the run. If I do another long distance triathlon, it will be a similarly challenging course.

  • Comments: For an inaugural race IM did a fantastic job. I heard lots of comments on problems with T1, but I think they did a great job. Sure my bag was frozen closed, the tent was packed with not much room, but so what. Everyone had to deal with the same issues, we are Ironman after all, suck it up! I loved this race - looking back now I would for sure do it again. If you asked me during the race I would have said HELL NO!, but it really was an epic day, one I am very proud of.

  • Comments: IMLT is not for the faint of heart. I would have a hard time recommending to a first timer simply because the weather, altitude and bike course are so unique. If you have access to train at altitude and hills, you'll be okay. I train on hills, but don't have mountains to climb in TN! The setting is awesome- it's by far the most beautiful course. Volunteers and local support are great- and bragging rights for this one are large. If you do sign up- be prepared for anything and bring all of your gear! I had to buy jacket on site and thankful that I did- wouldn't have made it in those conditions without it!

  • Comments: Wow. So happy to have toed the line at this inaugural event, and to have finished. Not my goal time, 1.5 hours slower than my slowest, but I'll take it!

  • Comments: First year race. I have made my comments throughout the report. I hope this did not come off as whiny or bad in any way. Again, I am proud of this race but as always, I want to do better. Type A personality, anyone? Thank you to all of the people who volunteered for the race. Thank you also to the Tahoe community. I know this was disruptive but everyone I met was gracious and helpful and seemed happy to have us there. Some of the nicer people I have met in my travels.

  • Comments: While I did not have to deal with some of the things other athletes had to overcome to complete this race I am proud to say that I finished and proud of the way I handled some of the adversity throughout the day. This was by far the most difficult race I have ever done and although my time was no where near my projected time, I am significantly more proud to have finished this race then my first IM in Texas last year or any other race for that matter My time was better in Texas but the adversity, conditions and course were brutal during this race and the sense of accomplishment after this race is unparralled to any other race I have ever done. I don't care what my time was and I am so happy that I was able to be part of this truly unbelievable first time Ironman. Regardless what is done with this race in the future, anybody that even started this race this race knows how absolutely brutal it was. My respect and admiration to all of you and I highly recommend this race for anyone that

  • Comments: I think this is a great new venue. I know there were a lot of DNF's and the weather added challenge. That said could you imagine if this race were on Sat when it was pouring? Overall I think its an awesome course and a great IM option. There are plenty of flat options so this adds some variety. I say keep it as is and just tweak some minor areas.

  • Comments: IMLT was a great first IM and super tough. I had a great time out their on Sunday and I am very glad I did the race. Will I ever do this race again? No. Even if the race conditions are identical I think I would prefer to try some of the other IM courses. Also I think we got pretty lucky with the weather. If in 2014 they have weather like we had on Saturday I am fairly confident that the race would be cancelled. I don't want to plan for the biggest race of the season knowing there is a decent chance it could be cancelled a couple days before the event.

  • Comments: This was a poorly organized race for an IM branded race. Gear was left out overnight in rain and freezing temps, no one know how the transition for T2 worked or where the finish line was going to be, T1 was a complete nightmare with no lighting in a tent that was nearly pitch black and about 1/4 of the area needed for the athletes. T1 was very long, extremely long distance running in bike shoes and with bike. The standard stuff, food, aid stations were fine. Given how cold the race was and now nasty the bike was with such a high DNF rate, I really can't recommend this race to anyone. If the race would have been the day before folks would have been in rain and snow all day long. If the race were held the day before the race completion rate would likely have been around 10-20%. Risks are just too high to do this one again.

  • Comments: The inaugural Ironman Lake Tahoe was even tougher than athletes were expecting, with brutal weather conditions adding to the challenge of an already tough course. The day before the race, featured windy and freezing conditions, with snow falling at the end of the day. While it didn’t snow on race day, it was especially chilly with temperatures in the 30's when athletes jumped into the water at Kings Beach. Did the tough weather and course lead to slower finish times and a higher DNF rate? According to Raymond Britt at Runtri.com they did. The average finish time was 14 hours and 6 minutes, with 20% of athletes not completing the race. PHOTOS: 2013 Ironman Lake Tahoe 2013 Ironman Lake Tahoe Fast Facts Registered Entrants: 2700+ Did Not Start: 565 (21%) Finishers: 1,719 DNF of Race Starters: 20+%; DNF on Bike: 267 (12%); DNF on Run: 182 (8%) So how do these numbers compare to other tough Ironman's in history? The DNF rate does not quite meet the 29% rate that Ironman St.

  • Comments: During the bike, thought I was having a bad day as my average pace was only 16 mph. Based on SG, I expected to average between 17 and 18. Bike placing, both within my age group and overall was better than I expected. The challenging bike course took more out of my legs than I had planned but I paced the run well, never really fading and was very happy with my overall performance. Nutrition plan seemed to work well!
