  • Comments: This was my second HIM and the most challenging race I have done during my 2 short seasons of triathlon. I have mixed feelings about this race. I finished, I beat my GCT HIM time, but I didn't meet my time goal. I found out that I can swim in choppy waters, ride in strong headwinds/crosswinds on a hilly course, and eat during the run. It was a humbling race after coming off strong finishes at NYC and PTC. Probably a good thing going into the off-season to let me know that I still have a lot of work to do. Riding with tribesman to Raleigh made the 7 hour trip bearable and it was cool that our transition areas were next to each other. Although, I only saw him before and after the race. Guess I'll have to wait until next year to learn how to play that trick on him. Anyway, thanks tribesman for all your training help and tips. You really do inspire me to become a better triathlete.

  • Comments: There were 175 volunteers for 500 participants, or approximately .35 volunteers each. I hate to tell you, but I think I used other peoples volunteers to serve my drinks on the run course.

  • Comments: The whole race beat me bad in 2005. The run beat me bad in 2006. I call this year a draw. My swim was 30 seconds faster than last year. (fastest swim in a 1/2 yet) My ride was 14 minutes slower, but not quite as slow as 2005 and definately not at the 2005 level of pain (Please God, get me off this bike). My run was 34 minutes faster that last year and almost 25 minutes faster than White Lake this year (7 minutes faster than White Lake in 2006). My overall time was almost 22 minutes faster. (That's nothing compared to 2005.) I guess I would take the slower bike to finish that much faster. I beat White Lake 2007 by almost 11 minutes. If I put this run on White Lake, I am well under 6 hours. Probably the most important thing I learned is that I can do this length race well without gels. All I took on the bike was slightly more than 2 bottles of Infinit Iron man mix. Goal was 1 bottle an hour, but I took closer to 2 1/3 bottles. I had water for the ecaps. Other than that,

  • Comments: Had a lot of fun doing this race. Learned a lot of things to apply to the next HIM. There is no substitute for experience and I got my on this race!!!! Will definitely do this race again. And better next time.
