Comments: One of the things I love about this race is the crowd support. Despite the weather, there were thousands of people around the course. Downtown Newburyport was packed with people cheering and clapping. There were TONS of people outside thier homes with hoses, water cups, buckets, squirt guns etc... I had a blast with the kids handing off waters, and reaching for high fives etc.. The finish was lined solid with enthusiastic folks cheering me up the last hill. (Brutal uphill finish - BTW)
An added bonus was hearing, and seeing my Mom at mile 9 just as I was really starting to wonder if I would make it. I heard a "Go Dave!" as I passed by and managed to smile and wave. That was a boost.
Then, around mile 9.5, I heard my old high school coach start going nuts, and yelling and cheering for me. I had seen him very briefly right at the start, so I wasn't suprised to hear him, but it sure was quite a boost as I was suffering through the last 1/2 mile. It brought me right back to my days
