  • Description: Cal Triathlon's Bearathlon race has become a staple in the Bay Area, with loyal triathletes returning year after year for the event dubbed the World's Toughest Sprint Triathlon. As the innuagural race of the West Coast Collegiate Triathlon season, Bearathlon routinely draws collegiate athletes from as far away as Santa Barbara and Long Beach.

Like last year's race, Bearathlon VI will feature an openwater-style 500 meter swim in Cal's 50-meter by 25-yard Spieker Pool with a deep water start. The bike will again take competitors on a challenging route to the top of the Berkeley Hills that includes the notorious ascent up Centennial Drive past the Lawrence Hall of Science. For their hard work, athletes will be rewarded with spectacular views of the Bay Area as they ride across the hills to Tunnel Road. A fun but technical descent down Claremont Avenue completes the bike. The run will again feature a tour of the central campus with a final climb to the base of the Campanile.

A raffle, awards and post-race nutrition by Naked Juice and Chipotle cap off a morning of tough racing.

Bearathlon VI is sanctioned by USA Triathlon. The race is hosted by and benefits Cal Triathlon. It is made possible thanks to the generous support of sponsors, including Transports, Chipotle, Saucony, Naked Juice, and Mike's Bikes.
