• Description: With craggy, gut-wrenching climbs, house-sized rocks, wet-your-pants downhills, and spiders as big as you hand, there's nothing mild about the 12 Miles of Hell. One of the most prestigious awards is a trophy for the most horribly abraded epidermal tissue. Usually 14 to 17 miles long ('06 race was 15.5 miles), the event gets its name from the first 12-mile course. While the distance may seem a bit short for many experts, the difficulty factor ensures that nobody finishes begging for more.
