  • Description: Both duathlons and the Wild West 8k take place in and around the beautiful town of Carrboro, NC.

The run course is relatively flat and fast and it goes through quiet neighborhood streets. There's a conveniently-located aid station at the corner of Quail Roost Drive and Hillsborough Road, which participants run by twice during each loop. Remember, the main decision point is at the end of each loop as you re-enter the McDougle Middle School grounds. At the end of the first loop, all Wild West 8K runners and Long Course duathletes take a RIGHT and repeat the same loop for a second time. For the first run leg, Super Sprint duathletes complete 1 loop and then take a LEFT towards the transition area. For the second run leg, Super Sprint duathletes complete 1/2 loop (right on Quail Roost Dr) before finishing.

The bike course heads north of Carrboro into Orange County. This course consists entirely of secondary highways, which cover some beautiful terrain. Rolling hills and long straight-aways will make for a fast bike split. Long Course and Super Sprint duathletes head out on the same roads, but once they arrive at the intersection of Dairyland Rd and Rocky Ridge Rd, Long Course duathletes take a RIGHT and Super Sprint duathletes take a LEFT. We strongly encourage you to drive the race course and become very familiar with the course maps.

The transition area is located at McDougle Middle School. This is a large venue with ample space for the transition area as well as a start and finish line.
