The 20th Annual Keyesville Classic Mountain Bike Race will kick-off both the USA Cycling Mountain Bike National Cross Country and Gravity calendars, March 14-16 in Lake Isabella, Calif. The event, presented by the Southern Sierra Fat Tire Association (SSFTA) has also been included in the AMBC Series and boasts a total of $4,000 in prize money, guaranteeing that this year’s event will see a significant increase in national exposure. For a complete listing of all of USA Cycling’s Mountain Bike National Calendars and series standings, click here.

In previous years, pro-riders did not accumulate any points for their efforts, but participated in the event for its grass-roots appeal, festive atmosphere, and spectacular race course and venue.

Although included in the pro-calendars, the Keyesville Classic will still be a great race for riders of all abilities, from elite professionals to beginners with no racing experience whatsoever.

“Our goal is to make the 2008 event the best in its 20-year history, by bringing in more elite-level riders, without neglecting the average guys whose continued support of the race helped keep Keyesville alive in leaner years,” explained Race Director Jason Smith of the upcoming Keyesville Classic. “Keyesville has always been a favorite among local and regional riders, and we want share this event with a wider audience.”

The event, scheduled for March 15th and 16th, will include the following individual races:
Downhill: “The Snakepit” – great course for adrenaline junkies of all abilities or spectators
Short Track – an off-road Criterion, with a tight group of riders battling it out on a short loop (another spectator friendly race)
Cross Country – an 8 mile loop with over 1,000 feet of lung busting climbs, ranked by numerous cycling magazines as one of the top courses in the world.
Stage Race – best all around rider participating in all three above events in the same category and on the same bike.
Observed Trials – (non-sanctioned) skilled riders negotiate outrageous natural obstacles without touching the ground with their feet.
Kids Race – cool prizes for fast toddlers
Vintage – competitors complete the above events on antique mountain bikes
Weekend Kick-Off – come register Friday night at the Kern River Brewery and watch the history of mountain biking as documented by the movie “Klunkerz”

The Keyesville Classic is sponsored by the SSFTA, a family oriented non-profit organization of mountain bike enthusiasts in and around Kern County, California committed to serving the community and promoting the sport of mountain biking.
