  Open Door 5K After ten years at the Highland Lakes Campus of Oakland Community College, Open Door Outreach Center’s 5K Julie Run had to find a new home this year because of extensive construction at the school. The race was moved to the scenic campus of Walled Lake Northern High School in Commerce. On paper, the new race course map looked confusing; however, seasoned course marshals insured that the race went off flawlessly.
  
  Phil Watkins, of Commerce, celebrated his 17th birthday on this day with a 16:51 victory. Deb Deren, at age 44, had no birthday to celebrate, but made the day special by winning the women’s competition in 20:31 .
  
  Honorary Chairperson Lila Lazarus inspired the crowd before the race, handed out awards after, and practiced what she preaches daily as the Good Health Reporter for WDIV-TV by finishing in the top 12% of the women’s field.
