- Description: The Embassy Suites Half Marathon Run-Jog-Walk starts about 10:20 a.m. and is timed to start after the first 40 or so marathoners go by. It starts south of Meeks Bay on Glen Street, half way down the Marathon course, just up the hill from Rubicon Realty. The course rolls downhill for the first 2 miles before starting a challenging climb of 520’ over 1.55 miles up the "Hill from Hell", then 1.3 miles of rolling terrain, then down 200’ over 9/10th miles crossing over Eagle Falls, and back up 200’ over 9/10th miles to the 20 mile mark at Inspiration Point. The spectacular 20 mile mark or 7 mile Half Marathon mark can be viewed in the movie "City of Angels" where Meg Ryan bikes down the narrow spine of the ridge over looking Emerald Bay, Cascade Lake, and Tahoe itself. Rent the film and see it in the last 15 minutes of the film. This may be the most beautiful run you ever do. The last 6.2 miles are all down hill and beautiful picking up the bike trail for the last 3.5 miles to the finish going over Taylor Creek Bridge and the spawning fire cracker red Kokanee salmon, through the Pope and Valhalla Historical Estates along the waters edge, by Camp Richardson and finishing at Pope Beach where the cold water's of Tahoe await your tired feet. A cold beer and a hot dog, a finishers medal and wind shirt await you as well. There are aid stations every mile for the Half Marathon and 10K.
