  • Description: The Lakeland Rotary Club is proud to add a premier multi-sport event to a well-known cultural festival. The Child of the Sun Jazz Festival, created in 1988, has celebrated jazz music and Frank Lloyd Wright’s largest single-site collection at Florida Southern College. Beginning in 2011, participants will be able to enjoy a sprint triathlon and 5K run in the morning and a jazz festival with free admission beginning in the late afternoon.

    The Child of the Sun Urban Triathlon offers a swim in a pristine, fresh water lake; an urban bike loop that includes stretches along three picturesque lakes; and an urban run through downtown Lakeland which features some of Lakeland’s most scenic views.

    One of the few urban triathlons in Florida, The COTS Urban Triathlon is for a special charitable project. Additionally, it is one of the few triathlons that have additional entertainment, with the jazz festival beginning late afternoon. All this in the central location of Lakeland, Polk County, Florida.

    0.33 mile swim (loop course in Lake Mirror in Downtown Lakeland)

    12 mile bike (urban two-loop course through Downtown Lakeland incorporating portions of Lake Mirror, Lake Morton, and Lake Hollingsworth)

    3.2 mile run (urban loop course through Downtown Lakeland passing by Lake Mirror and Lake Morton).
