  • Description: The Annual Mid-Summer Triathlon & Duathlon is held as part of a two day multi-sport celebration offered within an incredible Hawaiian Style Experience! The event is great for not only the experienced triathlete, but for the novice triathlete as well. The start / finish venue is located within beautiful Blue Lake Park where you will swim in 72+ degree water (many athletes don’t even wear a wetsuit!). The bike course is held almost entirely on Marine Dr which is closed to thru vehicle traffic (local traffic only and there is little of that). Only the first seven miles of the Olympic distance tri fall outside of this zone, and on Sunday morning there is still little to no traffic. No railroad tracks, just 12 miles (Sprint distance race) or 24.5 miles (Olympic distance race) of smooth pavement to compete on during the bike leg (Note: there is one railroad track crossing on the Olympic Distance that is covered with carpeting). The course is virtually flat with the only appreciative elevation gain or loss occurring as you travel beneath the Glenn Jackson Bridge (Sprint and Olympic distance races) or going up and over the 223rd Ave overpass (Olympic distance race only). The run begins with ¼-mile of paved path within the park and the final ½-mile along the lake. The remainder of the run is on the Marine Dr Bike Path making the run portion of the event all on pavement with no vehicle traffic for the Sprint distance race. There is an additional one-mile stretch of the run (1/2 mile out-and-back) for the Olympic distance triathlon on the wide bike path along Marine Dr. The event offers three triathlon distances to choose from (Olympic, Sprint and Novice) as well as a Sprint distance duathlon. The flat and fast course with little to no traffic, warm water and a beautiful start / finish venue make the Mid-Summer Triathlon/Duathlon the ideal event for both veteran and novice athletes.
