  • Description: The Buckhead Border Challenge will provide Kentuckiana multisport athletes a big-time event with a unique venue and amenities previously only found in the larger events outside of the region. The Buckhead Border Challenge will offer participants a challenging and memorable course along with unmatched professionalism in event management and customer service.

The Ohio River in downtown Louisville will serve as the venue for the swim portion of this event. The sprint distance will start from the River Stage in Jeffersonville and finish on the banks of Buckhead Mountain Grill on the Jeffersonville riverfront. The Olympic distance will take off on the Kentucky side of the Ohio across the river to the Indiana shoreline in front of Buckhead Mountain Grill!

The bike course will take participants through a scenic and fairly flat 12 mile loop (Olympic Distance will do 2 loops). The sprint distance is 20 kilometers and the Olympic distance is 40 kilometers. This course will run along the Ohio River on the Jeffersonville side along Utica Pike. Expect great volunteer and police protection along the way.

The run course will take you across the 2nd Street Bridge into downtown Louisville and past the brand new KFC Yum Center, home to the University of Louisville Cardinals Basketball teams! While the sprint distance triathletes will make a quick turn around at the base of the bridge, the Olympic distance will pass under the bridge down to the river and run along the river on the famed Louisville River Walk on an out and back. They will turn around and come back across the bridge to finish on Riverside Drive (Restaurant Row) in front of Buckhead Mountain Grill. For the most part, the course is flat and fast. The Sprint Distance is 3.1 miles, while the Olympic Distance is 6.2 miles. Don’t worry as we will have hydration stations and time clocks approximately every mile along the way!
