  • Description: Texas' Hardest Half!

The Half begins with a 1.2 mile swim, starting in waist deep water (76-80 deg. temp) next to the dam. Buoys placed 100 meters apart with large turn buoys make for a smooth swim leg in calm waters. The cutt-off time for the Half is one hour, ten minutes. The Olympic course will be to the interior of the Half.

Our bike course is on smooth roads, covering 56 miles of beautiful East Texas countryside. This course is very scenic yet challenging. The first 25 miles are relatively tame. The second half gets into some hills broken up by a reprieve of 4 miles of downhill and tailwind. Feel free to boast of climbing both Killer Hill and Water Tower Hill in a Half-Iron triathlon. Four hand ups of water and gatorade placed evenly on the course, assure you will be hydrated for the run to come. The Olympic course borrows the tail end of the Half course, allowing the experience of Water Tower Hill and Yarborough Lane. There will be two water hand-ups for the Olympic course.

The run course for the Half and Olympic are out and back on Eastside Rd. The Lake road is mostly shaded, smooth and roller coaster. Don't be surprised to see deer crossing your path. You will have aid stations at every mile marker, filled with water, gels, gatorade, pickle juice, pretzels, bananas, and ice.
