- Description: The "Beat the Tide" 5 miler is guaranteed to be one of the most spectacular run courses that athletes have ever raced on. Taking place on historic, Minister's Island, the run will be entirely around the coast of the island on the restored carriage trails, once used by one of Canada's founding families. Home to the Van Horne estate and now restored as a museum and historic site, the entire island has been restored and is now visited by tourists from around the World in the summer months.
This island can be reached by car at low tide, but only by boat during the rest of the day. Our run course will begin and finish on the island during the period of low tide.
This run course is mostly on wide, grass carriage trails along the coast with a view of dozens of islands, beaches and marine life. The run will have small portions of single track, through the woods along the coast, but the majority will be on the carriage trails encompassing the island. Athletes are guaranteed to get views of the dozens of deer that live on the island as well as the many other birds and marine life that make up the Bay of Fundy ecosystem. The run course will pass many restored structures and barns that made up the original Van Horne estate and finish back at the start point at the Van Horne residence and parking area.
A portion of each entry fee will be donated to the Van Horne Estate to assist with the ongoing upkeep of this astounding island museum.
