- Description: Held on Wednesday evening in mid September. The first race started at seven in the evening and was held the evening of the Harvest Moon. Because darkness was a problem, the race start time was moved to 6:30 p.m. Also because of this issue the race date has moved form the exact harvest moon, which can be well into October, to mid-September. The race has grown from about fifty entrants at its first running to 172 entrants in 2003.
The course has always been around Lake Andrea in Prairie Springs Park and has been a 5K. The course includes a little less than a mile of a wooded section of the park. It is a flat, fast and accurately measured 5K.
This event like all our races welcomes both elite athletes and recreational runners and for many is a family event. In this spirit, we last year initiated a free one quarter mile race for children twelve and under.
The 5K race has five year age divisions starting at nine and under and going to seventy plus years. Both races award division medals three deep and trophies to the overall winners.
