Polar Heart Rate Monitor
Buy the higher end products. If you are going to really use this device for training, then you need the features that this model does not have.

I could not swim one lap in the pool before buying this DVD. I really could not swim at all. After lots and lots of practice and running the drills shown in the DVD, I did teach myself how to swim via this video. In four months I have worked up to one mile and have completed three sprint tris. For someone who needs to learn how to swim, I highly suggest this video.

A well made shoe that meets or exceeds the 2120.

This is probably the most inexpensive full carbon bike you can buy. It has a good component set and a good geometry that is both powerful and comfortable. Overall I think that it is one of the best mid-level bikes available and is probably the best value for money out there.
Read MorePerformance Performance Single Speed Conversion Kit
I bought this conversion kit as part of an "on the cheap" bike build for a single speed off-road rig that I could ride on the trails here at work through the winter. I caught it on a particularly good sale, as it usually runs about $29-35, but even at that price, I think it's a great product. I was salvaging my old 7-speed wheels from my long-dusty MTB, and was a bit nervous about the kit not working on the freehub body. No problem -- it installed flawlessly. The kit contains the chain tensioner (which replaces the rear derailleur), three cogs (16, 18, and 20T), and enough spacers of two different thicknesses to get the chain line right on about any bike. The only buggaboo I found was that the cogs don't tolerate partial chain wrap (it'll skip), so the chain needs to be ALMOST tight in order to alleviate this. The tensioner really just allows you to use a single cog on a bike without horizontal dropouts. Once I got the chain length right, the system has run perfectly. There is a little bit of buzz-hum at the rear end, and that is characteristic of SS and track cogs, as the teeth are deeper. If you've ridden a track bike, this is a familiar sound. I've ridden this set-up for about a month now, and have never had a problem with it. High-tension hills, rough stuff, sand, it just keeps rolling along. And it gives the bike a very clean look (no shifters, front or rear derailleur).

I would definitely recommend this custom bike to anyone who has "issues" with sizing. I was able to choose my own colors and design, including having my name put on it. I expect to have this bike for a long, long time.
Read MoreXLAB Flatwing
XLAB is a good company. The Flatwing as a product is very attractive...it SHOULD do everything well. However, in practice, it does very little well.
Consider an under-seat wedge for CO2/inflators/tubes, and consider an alternative hydration (profile aerodrink, neverreach, etc) for hydration.
Promotion Wetsuit
I'd buy another Promotion suit, although I would not go with their sizing recommendations.

This is a great entry level bike. I test rode several of them and found this to be the stiffest and most responsive of those I tried.
