Pre-race routine:

got up at 4, drove to offsite parking and then took shuttle. Waited around for quite awhile until my wave
Swim
  • 19m
  • 880 yards
  • 02m 10s / 100 yards
Comments:

felt really good about my swim - actual ranked top 25% for the swim - stayed totally calm but was amazed how many people in front of me would just stop swimming and float for awhile. I did a lot of "dodging" the stoppers.
What would you do differently?:

not much - swim harder and maybe start more towards front of group
Transition 1
  • 06m 15s
Comments:

well, I thought I had the best transition spot ever when we racked bikes the day before. Easy to find on the end of the row. Unfortunately, it was the furthest row from the entrance. Ha ha. oh well, running so far got my legs nice and warmed up for the bike.
What would you do differently?:

pay attention to the maps and make a better choice of a T spot
Bike
  • 50m 39s
  • 12 miles
  • 14.22 mile/hr
Comments:

here's where things took a turn for the worse. I came upon a big cluster of walkers going up the Day street hill narrow section and had to jump off my bike and try to run up it. Somehow, when I got back on the bike, I tweaked a quad muscle and spent the rest of the bike segment trying to get my leg to stop hurting. Also, there were an INSANE number of people on the road. I had people passing on the right and others who would dart left if you said "on your left". I feel pretty confident on the bike but it was a bit sketchy. I had a pretty slow bike time but I'm glad I survived :)
What would you do differently?:

I'm really not good at drinking on the bike - gotta' work on that for sure
Transition 2
  • 03m 44s
Comments:

again, had to run a marathon just to get back to transition spot.
What would you do differently?:

not pick a T spot in Nepal
Run
  • 45m 19s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 14m 37s  min/mile
Comments:

horrid horrid horrid. The quad killed me through the entire run. Did everything I could to keep running but had to take some walk breaks. Made sure to run at Finish line and then immediately got ice on the leg.
What would you do differently?:

not have a strained quad muscle ;)
Post race
Warm down:

was concered abbout quad so iced and tried to walk at same time

What limited your ability to perform faster:

the quad

Event comments:

Overall, this was my first Sprint and I really wanted to finish under 2 hrs. I missed it by 5 minutes but given that I messed up a quad and had a transition spot in another state, I'm giving myself a break and just enjoying that I finished!
