Swim
Comments: Started out ok, but got bottle necked with people in front, behind, beside... it was a bit chaotic and threw off my concentration/breathing. I started swim classes on July 7, so I have less than a month of swimming under my belt. I know I can do better with time and practice. Was fairly average for my current level. I did resort to breast stroke for one lap and gulped water once. What would you do differently?: Need more practice and drills. Will start Zero to 1650 program tomorrow. Transition 1
Comments: I do not have cycle shoes so had to put on run shoes. Fumbled with the laces. Had a little difficulty unracking bike. Bike is a bit tall and does not roll under the rack well. What would you do differently?: Faster lace ups of some sort. Practice quickest way to pull bike off rack. Bike
Comments: The bike ride is where I lost the most time. Did not keep fast enough pace and had difficulty on hills/inclines. I'd like to blame that fact that it is a hybrid bike not a road bike; but I know I would be told to "spend more time on the engine" and not blame the equipment. What would you do differently?: More time in the saddle and more hills! (Hills - It's what's for breakfast, right?) I neglected the bike in favor of learning to swim. Now I see it needed more attention! Also I've been afraid of raod biking in my area. But I've found a safe neighborhood for evening rides near my home during the week, and a long desolate rolling highway for longer Sunday morning rides. Look out Plank Road... here I come! Transition 2
Comments: Was running with the bike but got bottle-necked with others who were walking! Had a little trouble racking the bike. Otherwise, took off helmet and took off running. What would you do differently?: Practice racking and unracking. Run
Comments: Had a steady pace. Did fairly well off the bike... noodle legs not too bad. Hills were difficult, but stopping/walking was not an option. Continued jogging up the hills. Pace was consistent with training. What would you do differently?: Speed drills/hills. Post race
Warm down: Walk it off and stretches. What limited your ability to perform faster: Only 2 months training (not enough!) Can only get better from here. Biggest limiter was bike and this will be addressed most urgently. Event comments: I was steady throughout the entire race, but need to get faster on bike because it is GAME ON!!! Overall good experience for a first Tri. I'm hooked! Next Tri Scheduled for Sepatember 12 in open water! Woo hoo!!! Last updated: 2009-08-06 12:00 AM

Ate a banana with all natural peanut butter and a Larabar. Arrived at transition site at 5:30 a.m. Had plenty of time to figure out what to do and get acclimated. Had a protein powder drink.
Did warm-up stretches. The pool was open for swim warm up from 6:00 to 6:30; however since my swim start was not until 8:14:50, I did not warm up in pool.
