Swim
Comments: Although it was cold out the water felt great. I would have never been able to swim 2.4 miles under and hour without the assistance of the incoming tide. What would you do differently?: Had a fellow triathlete zip up my wetsuit and he must not have gotten everything situated correctly up around my neck because I had some raw spots on the back of my neck when I got out of the water. I did apply BodyGlide to my neck, wrists and ankles before putting on my wetsuit. Transition 1
Comments: Had a long run between the swim exit and the T1 tent. Stripped out of my wet clothes and dried off as much as possible. It was very difficult to get my cycling shorts, shirt and arm warmer on over my cold and clammy skin. What would you do differently?: Could have saved time by wearing a trisuit and not doing a complete clothe change. Bike
Comments: Started out at an easy pace and then got into a nice groove. Was keeping a good pace until that last turn onto 421 for the home stretch into the wind. That was both mentally and physically draining. My feet were numb from the swim until 3 hours into the bike. Stopped to pee 3 different times; did not want to pee on the bike because the warmth would only last a short time before it turned to chill. Transition 2
Comments: Stopped and changed into running shorts. Took the tri top off and put the cycling shirt back on. Changed socks. What would you do differently?: Would like to get a nice trisuit and not have to make clothing changes. Run
Comments: Probably went a little too hard on the bike because my legs did not feel as fresh as they did for IMLP. Started out with sore shins, but they started feeling better after 3 miles. Felt pretty good between miles 3 and 10 and had thoughts that I might be able to go under 11 hours, but coming back in over the two bridges really took it out of me. The last half was painful with a constant mental and physical battle between the desire to walk and the urge to keep running. Was surprised at how dark it was running down the last bridge and hoped that I didn't trip on anything. Was so glad to finally see that finish line. Stopped two times to pee at MM 3 and 16. What would you do differently?: I did not train as hard for the 14 weeks between IMLP and B2B as I should have. May have done better had there not been the headwind coming back in on the bike. Should have slowed my pace and took it easier into the wind. Post race
Warm down: Was cold and exhausted after the race and did not feel like eating anything. Wanted a Gatorade, but the only thing I found were soft drinks. Drank a smoothie, but that just had me shivering to the bones. Hated to wait in the line to catch the water taxi back over to the Hilton. Could not imagine how bad it must have been last year if this year was an improvement. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of dedicated training. Event comments: Swore I would never do another iron distance race after this one, but that is the same thing I said after doing IMLP back in July. Could hardly walk after the race and that was the case until Tuesday, but now I am feeling much better. Could kick myself for not going at least 8:01 faster. Last updated: 2009-11-11 12:00 AM

Woke at 4:00am and ate 2 toasted peanut butter and honey sandwiches with some Gatorade. Ate a mocha PowerGel about 20 minutes before the swim start and drank a bottle of water.
Tried to loosen up and stretch a little while trying to keep warm. Got in the water and swam just to get used to the water.
