Pre-race routine:

Drove to SI, parked at the Ferry Terminal, took the 51 bus up to South Beach and walked the final little bit to the start. Ft. Wadsworth was ammazing. It was more like Runstock (aka - a running equivalent of Woodstock) than a race are.

Comments:

It was hot. I started running on pace for a 3:35 and realized it was too hot to hold that effort. At about mile 12 or so I just dialed it back and made sure to finish without getting too dehydrated. The course was spectacular. With the warm weather, we had great crowd support so it was nice to see so many friends out who had driven up for the day.
What would you do differently?:

I would have realized that the temps were going to be a bigger factor and taken the starting 10 a little slower.

Event comments:

I only have two complaints. First, they need to do a better job of organizing the start. What is the point of having corrals if no one checks to make sure you are where you should be? At the very least, they ought to do something like Chicago and have a teired start system (Elite, Sub Elite, Competative, Preffered, and Open).Second, I understand the need to keep the finishers moving but the finish was too strectched out. It shouldn't take 30 min+ to make it to the baggage area.

That said, it is amazing that NYRR can put on a race of this magnitude with as few problems as there are. The logistical problems in this race must be a nightmare for the RD. Run NY for the experience not for time.
