  • Comments: Despite my issues with the post-race slowness (which I read about prior to the race), this race was amazing. I loved every minute, even the last painful 6 miles. There is nothing like running through the city with the sites and the people that come out to support the runners. The energy was just amazing and I'd run this race every year if I could. It was also extra special to have my family out on the race course. They were at the perfect locations and right when I needed a pick-me-up. Even with the not so great spectating weather, they were energetic and full of cheers and smiles. They definitely made my race.

  • Comments: Only complaints? No gels until mile 18, and that was it! Thank god for the kindness of strangers with bananas and chocolate! For a non New Yorker, it is tough! I was alone, cold, hungry, and weak. To walk 2 miles post race in that state is tough. I think they could do a little bit better job of escorting folks since so many people are not even from our country that do this race!! Also providing some food--those choices just weren't enough. Still, these are minor complaints to the magical race and spirit I felt. I've never felt so buoyed by a crowd!! It is a once in a lifetime race that everyone should try to experience.

  • Comments: This race is run so very well. I loved the expo, the start area, the volunteers on course and after the race were great. Many people will tell you that the course is hard because of the many bridges. Coming from SC and no hills, that did worry me, but I found them to be no problem at all. Training on our bridge, which is a much bigger and steeper hill than any you find in this race, was a great way to get ready for hills.

  • Comments: Pretty darn well organized for 50,000 runners. And with Boston, the security was a necessary hassle, but it didn't bother me at all. Fans couldn't get to the finish line unless they paid $75 for VIP pass was disappointing to my wife and friend that came out to see me.

  • Comments: For 50k runners in the wake of the bombings in Boston, it was all very smooth. Well done NYRR and NYC. I hope to get back in the next 10 years.

  • Comments: Needed many more porta-potties in first half or race. Long wait before start is tough to take. The post race treatment in Central Park is severely lacking. Need water, food and medical attention first - not the post race photo. The walk to baggage pickup is absolutely brutal.

  • Comments: Gender place - 9906. I think it was a good race based on my fitness level. It was too hard because of my lack of training, but not too hard in a bad way. I think my 5 ratings or mental and physical effort reflect my current fitness level. Something different this time around is that I haven't suffered the post race let down that I have in the past. In fact, I feel inspired to get back into normal workouts and try to qualify for NYC (and Boston) again!

  • Comments: Never again will I promise to stay with someone for an entire race! My friend has never traveled without her father and is 36 year old teacher. When we both made it into the lottery and nobody else from our town did I told her i would stick with her the entire race. She has done marathons in the past and actually in 5-5:30 hours but she is doesnt eat! Literally doesnt eat and is aware of her anorexia but still doesnt do anything about it. She did not train for this race and at just a .25 mile into it she had to start walking! It was miserable. I couldnt get her to run block to block. WIth my knee injuries this hurt much worse then running ever has. I told her during training I would go slow since my knee issues but also told her I dont want to be any slower then 6 hours. This turned into almost 7 and a half! UGGGGG

  • Comments: A great race that is probably a once-in-a-lifetime experience for someone from Hawaii. If you didn't get goosebumps at certain spots along the course with all those people cheering, there must be something wrong with you.

  • Comments: This race is HUGE. Organization is great. Logistics would be a nightmare. I was supposed to be in the 9:40 start and they had me scheduled to be on the 5:45 AM ferry. I opted for a later ferry, adn still got to the start with over an hour to spare - I just didn't know it. There were tons of volunteers, everything went right on schedule. THe finish area was a madhouse. I had to walk another 1/2 mile from the finsh line to get out of the bag pick-up, and I didn't even pack a bag to pick up. That led to a mile walk back down Central Park West to get to the finish line to meet my wife. All things said, it was a great race, a huge race, a definite must-do race for anyone who runs marathons. I am very glad to say that I have done it, but there are lots of others I will do before I do NYC again.
