Pre-race routine:

Early start to get Becca to the youth triathlon, where she did GREAT!!
Got everything ready and helped Monica get her stuff ready.
Event warmup:

Swam probably 200 yards and then stood in line.
Swim
  • 07m 16s
  • 440 yards
  • 01m 39s / 100 yards
Comments:

Not a bad swim, time is better than what the swim felt. Had to do a lot of single side breathing, which is slower for me, and may be due to the warmer pool. I did fatigue a little and just tried to glide and stretch.
What would you do differently?:

2007 - 8:24
2008 - 7:55
2009 - 7:45
2010 - 7:16

Happy where swim is for now. Will need to stretch the endurance while trying to maintain some of the "speed"
Transition 1
  • 00m 56s
Comments:

Long run, put shoes on and run out of transition.
What would you do differently?:

Not sure other than hurry more :)
Bike
  • 35m 28s
  • 13.4 miles
  • 22.67 mile/hr
Comments:

Due to some reports of very rough roads, I left the Spinergy front wheel in the van and ran the Easton Vista. Windy and Wet. Headed out with a tailwind, which was enjoyable, but knew there was work to do going the other way. Went around the curve and hit the crosswind, Made the next turn and hit the wall of headwind. Time to dig in. Stayed in big ring and started the grind. Riding into the wind is not fun, but I do seem to make up time on people. Make another turn and crosswind, turn tailwind, turn crosswind, turn and start the long ride back into town into the headwind. Same Same, big ring, grind. By grind I mean cadence in the low 80's and just steady effort. I got passed once here, but managed to pass him back and stayed in front. There was one guy having a lot of trouble riding straight and almost veered into me as I passed. Scary moment. Back into transition feeling good about my ride.
What would you do differently?:

2007 - 38:35
2008 - 37:11
2009 - 37:40 (WINDY)
2010 - 35:28 (Wind&Rain)

Get a front race wheel that I can have confidence in to ride on some rougher roads. Maybe ease off a little to maybe run better, but no guarantees there.
Transition 2
  • 01m 1s
Comments:

Sat down to put socks and shoes on.
What would you do differently?:

Zoots were faster last year (no socks), but caused foot trouble.
Find a better (faster) way to get socks on.
Run
  • 25m 6s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 06s  min/mile
Comments:

Messed up my Garmin coming out of T2, so not sure of my paces. Legs felt ok at the start, but felt a little tight after about 1/2 mile. I know I have another, faster, pace. More of a Tempo pace, but can't seem to get there.
What would you do differently?:

2007 - 26:32
2008 - 22:50
2009 - 25:45
2010 - 25:06

More tempo work. Run a stand alone 5k. Not where I want my run, but probably where my run should be. Still recovering from plantar fasciitis. Was very uncomfortable on the way home. I've been running for about 3 weeks since taking about 4 weeks off from running. So I'm probably where I need to be. Plus it's an IM year. IMWI training plan starts tomorrow.
Post race
Warm down:

Didn't stretch enough. Walked, talked, cheered.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of run training and confidence in my running.

Event comments:

Great race every year, although weather always plays a factor. Volunteers were great standing out in the chilly wind and rain.
