Swim
Comments: Swim was pretty rough and choppy. First 300 was into the chop. Drank some water and could never find clear space. Got pummeled by two guys for about the first 200. Finally surged and got ahead of them. Got into a decent rhythm after the first turn buoy. Felt like I needed to throw-up from the water I drank but it calmed down after the first half. What would you do differently?: Get closer to the front and try to stay ahead of some of the slower swimmers. Thought I would be slower so I started a little further back. Could have knocked at least a minute off since I had to stop twice due to traffic. Transition 1
Comments: My shoe got stuck on the ground upside down when I jumped on my bike. Had to stop and get off to turn it back over. Lost 15 seconds on bike time. What would you do differently?: Make sure my shoes were flipped over before I jumped on. Bike
Comments: This is a smooth and nice bike course, rolling hills are not too bad. This was just due to a lack of training. Should be faster by now, but haven't put in the bike time this year. Beat my time from last year, so at least I improved. What would you do differently?: Train more. Transition 2
Comments: Forgot to put on my speed laces, so wasted a few seconds tying shoes. What would you do differently?: Not forget to put on speed laces. Run
Comments: Need more training. Only one run over 5 miles all year and that was a race. Huge blister on the back of my foot about mile 3. Haven't run enough without socks and it got me. Didn't affect my run though. Improved from last year, but that was because I had Plantar last year. What would you do differently?: More training. Post race
Warm down: Got in the ice bath at the Br Tri tents. Felt wonderful. Had some homemade cheesecake and just chilled under the tent. Had some food from the race. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of quality training. Event comments: Heatwave is a great race. Great venue and course. Always will be on my yearly list of to-do races. Got up at 5 am. Ate a english muffin with Peanut Butter. Loaded up stuff and drove to the race. Set up transition real quick and then had to set-up BR Tri club tent area. Thankfully my wife handled filling up the pool for the ice baths after the race.
Got down to the water just in enough time to get in a short 100m swim before we had to cross the timing mat.
