Swim
Comments: 17th out of 76 females. This placement is actually pretty good for me, although the time is subpar. I was all over the place with my sighting. Zig zag the entire time. It was difficult to see the buoys with the chop, and I wasn't sighting enough in the beginning. It seemed that the last buoy would never come. I thought it was just me. What would you do differently?: Be prepared for all possible swim conditions. The Jekyll swim is known to be "easy" and fast - and I had that in mind. I never imagined it would be this slow and difficult! Transition 1
Comments: I was very happy to see several bikes still in the transition area after the swim! My rack was the first one in the transition area - which meant it was the FURTHEST from the bike out. Sucks, but oh well! What would you do differently?: Practice transitions - it's been a while since I've done a tri. Bike
Comments: 7th/76 overall female. Not bad, not great. This was an average ride for me. What would you do differently?: Nothing Transition 2
Comments: About as good as I could do given my location in transition. What would you do differently?: Nothing Run
Comments: 9th/76 overall female. I had no pep in my step. The run is usually my strength, but this wasn't strong. I just ran. I didn't have anything left in the tank when I finished, but this was much slower than what I trained for. My HR was flying though. What would you do differently?: Bring more nutrition - more than I think I need. I think I needed another gel or two. Post race
Warm down: Had a recovery drink, lots of water and beer. Snacked on food. What limited your ability to perform faster: The longer swim (double what I expected) zapped me. I didn't plan for this with the nutrition I brought. Lesson learned: bring extra nutrition. I was depleted on the run. Event comments: I love this race and that it supports the sea turtle center. Overall, very well run and I had a blast! This was my first tri in 2 years due to an ACL resconstruction I had last summer. I was very happy to finish 2nd overall masters female and 1/18 in the 40-44 age group to qualify for the AG national championships. (Although, to not confuse, I received an award in the masters category.) It was really fun to get to race again! Last updated: 2010-04-25 12:00 AM
