  • Comments: Beautiful, interesting venue. Race organization has a few kinks to work out. Website listed my age group as 50-54, results posted as 46-50. WTH? Packet pickup the night before closed at 6pm, too early. Then packet pickup was slow on race day, so they delayed the start 15 minutes. Lame. No electrolyte drink on the run. Good music and food, but no beer at finish. Awards ceremony was painfully slow and too long (2+ hours). Results didn't give a T2 split. Results didn't list age of competitors.

  • Comments: I gave this race an average review because of: Lack of swim support and lack of buoys. Lot of people didn't follow the swim course and didn't hit the buoys right which means they shorted their swims but you can't blame them when there is no buoys around to go around. Long transition which counted against your swim time instead of your T1 time. Need more aid stations on the run, need to have cold water and gatorade/powerade it was hot as hell. Block of the run paths in the parking lots don't have spectators running into the runners. When printing race results put persons Age on the results so we don't have to wait two hours to hear race results.

  • Comments: I can see how this is a very fast course under the right conditions. If you have a low chop surf, and the current on the swim it would be blistering fast. If they reverse the bike to counter-clockwise around the island, that will make the bike blistering fast as well (no headwind on the back, and a tailwind on the front). The run is already fast, if you are not bombed out when you get there. This is a good race, and nice spot to race at. As Doug would say it is better to race at the beach, than to race anywhere else.

  • Comments: WAAAAY to few life guards in the water (i saw 2 on surfboards and 1 boat..) it was a dangerous and chaotic swim for many. What a shame. Otherwise it really was a fun race. The course and the setting is just beautiful and we enjoyed (almost) every minute of it.

  • Comments: What a great learning experience. I have now had "that race" and I can take a lot away from it. Train harder. I can swim for 55 minutes in rough water and come out alive. I can gut out a run when I have severe leg cramps. I think the RD should really take a look back at the swim and add more people in the water. It was dangerous for some and not nearly enough lifeguards in the water. DQ people who don't follow the rules. It is about integrity people!!! I WILL BE BACK NEXT YEAR, PREPARED AND SET A PR!!!

  • Comments: I love this race and that it supports the sea turtle center. Overall, very well run and I had a blast! This was my first tri in 2 years due to an ACL resconstruction I had last summer. I was very happy to finish 2nd overall masters female and 1/18 in the 40-44 age group to qualify for the AG national championships. (Although, to not confuse, I received an award in the masters category.) It was really fun to get to race again!

  • Comments: Took forever to get results because something was not working properly. Other than that, it was a great race. It was not ideal conditions for that race but everyone else had the same conditions.

  • Comments: This was my first Olympic. I felt pretty good about my overall time, even though I was last in my age group (of course there were only 20 in my age group and I think most of them were seasoned veterans). I could of registered at a clydesdale since I'm over 200 with shoes on, but thought I would go with age group. This was the first destination race for our company Tri Team. I think we had about 15 people from our team that did either the Sprint or Olympic. It was awesome having other team members, family and friends cheer us on. This was a fun and fast course. I am pretty sure our team will come back here next year. I look forward to improving my time (especially the run).

  • Comments: I swam a bit faster this year... I rode a bit faster this year... I ran a bit faster this year.. My daughter came and watched... What more could you ask for... Life is good. :) This is the best race that I have been too. I did it last year and I will do it next year. The ONLY thing that was not as good as last year is that they did not have the festival afterwards although not many racers stayed for it last year. We went to the turtle rescue center and asked why they did not do the turtle release as they did last year and she said they made a scheduling error and committed to another event on the same day without realizing it. They released a couple of turtles at the other event instead. Watching them release the rehabilitated turtles last year was very cool. I told them to bring back the festival with the live band, guy dressed as a turtle, and the turtle release. If I only did one race a year, it would be this one. DO THIS RACE! Ask anyone who has done it. It does not get any

  • Comments: The first one was truly an experience I won't forget. I was happy I finished. 11/12 in my AG? No big deal. Next race it will be. Now I have a different mind set for the next races. I want to get better....My goal is for Jekyll '09 to finish in 2:30 (33 minutes less than this year) The swim I know how to fix with a combination of changing the wetsuit and lessons to work on technique. The bike and run just need more dedication....basically listen to all that say HTFU...Transition will be at race pace, not picnic pace.... To all those who gave advice along the way...THANK YOU!!!!

  • Comments: I loved this race. I think Jekyll Island is a great place to hang out. It is the easiest course that I have ever been on although I have not been on that many. I had a GREAT TIME. I did my first brick of the year. I ran six miles at one time for the first time this year. I got to see the Turtle Conservatory release three sea turtles back into the wild. I ate at a cool restaurant. It got to enjoy a place that just has that feel good atmosphere. It was a good day in the life of Neal Phelps. ;)

  • Comments: Both of us were in 100% agreement, this was a magical experience. Jim Rainey is a class act along with the rest of the staff. The terrain is marvelous and I can't picture it going any better. It was truly an amazing experience.

  • Comments: I dedicated this race to my sis Barbara, who, as I was racing, was having a bad chemo day. She was nauseous and weak Sat and Sun but a little better today. No matter how bad we hurt as we beat ourselves up trying for a good finish, there are those who are hurting a lot more just trying to live. Perspective, always keep your life and your racing in Perspective. I will do this race again. This course on a calm day will definitely be a PR. Met Mindy Carpenter and she had a great race. My pal Kent B. shared my campsite and managed a great race without crashing his bike. We rode the bike course Fri and again Sat afternoon after recovering of course.

  • Comments: This was a great race. Once again, GA Multisports put on a first-class race. I can't say enough good things about this race production company. They thought of everything: the transition area had lights when it was still dark, plenty of helpful volunteers, water and gatorade at every aid station, mile markers at every mile on the bike and run, large signs at either end of transition for the run and the bike (no confusion on which way to go) and results posted at the end of the race. The only thing they didn't have was alot of post-race food; our only options were cookies and bagels w/cream cheese. The swim was crazy but they don't have any control over people who missed buoys, the waves were so big I don't think the people in kayaks could see everyone. I would definitely do this race again and it's a course primed for a PR.

  • Comments: Good race; 2 hours 17 minutes not counting the 2 minute penalty. Good enough for second in my age group and top 20 overall. The two minute penalty cost me at least 6 overall positions, so not a bad race. Being that I dragged my wife to the race and I live over 3 hours away I decided to turn the race weekend into a vacation. I got a hotel for Saturday night as well and spent the rest of Saturday and Sunday relaxing on the beach. I recommend the race in this sense to anyone. The race was run very well and I was very pleased.
